My husband and I were discussing motivation tonight and these quotes came up in the discussion:
Warren Bennis, professor of organizational psychology and business, Southern Cal:
From On Becoming a Leader, by Warren Bennis:
"The point is not to become a leader, the point is to become yourself, to use yourself complete - or your skills, gifts and energies - in order to make your vision manifest. You must withhold nothing...So stroke hard, try everything, do everything, render everything and become the person you are capable of becoming...Mastery requires absolute concentration, the full deployment of oneself...Unless you are willing to take risks, you will suffer paralyzing inhibitions, and you will never do what you are capable of doing...Adversity has a great deal to do with the development of leaders. Either it knocks you out or you become a bigger and better person."
Hemingway: "The world breaks all of us, and we grow stronger in the broken places."

Will comment on your post later, okay? Love the Hemingway quote, a variation of which I've had personal experience with the last few years.
I too like Hemingway's quote. It reminds me of the Friedrich Nietzsche quote (translated from the original German): "That which does not kill us makes us stronger".
I believe very strongly in this Nietzsche quote. Some traumatic experiences over a sustained period of many years have finally convinced me of the truth of this - I've been living this truth.
Thanks for sharing the quote and for perpetuating its truth, Nancy.
Just injecting some light-heartedness into what is actually a very precious thing....
you're lucky to have that support, and of course you know we all beleive in you
It makes a major difference when your husband believes in you. Mine believes in me and I finally decided to be a writer by trade rather than hobby (still working on that first novel too, rushing for NaNo now). Thanks to hubby's ongoing, relentless encouragement I finally dared to step out and do what I really wanted all these years (despite myself). Give that hubby a romantic kiss ;)
Love the quotes.
But life itself is motivation.
;)
It occurred to me that you are a way this weekend, but I wanted to mention that I have the Florida RWA Super Saturday tomorrow. It is our chapters annual full day workshop. I hope to come back with valuable info, but most of all, motivated.
Hope you have/had a nice weekend.
I know you can do it too.
