Me and Emily started off as friends, classmates in the same school from the same neighborhood. There was a perfect balance where what one knew and the other lacked, each was there to help the other. We did homework together and even dated on some weekends after school. It was sort of like a brother sister friendship and then we both graduated high school and college together. We had a first date at a club where we were now old enough to drink and the band played a nice variety of songs. After all the years together it was our first slow dance when suddenly the magic happened. She put her head on my shoulder and my arms instinctively held her waist tight to mine. A twinkle in both our eyes send a message of now it was more than just friends. What used to be a kiss on the cheek was suddenly now something a lot more passionate than each of us had dreamed of. After a few months of our new found relationship, Emily came over for a Christmas dinner at my parents house where I was still living at the time. The last present was almost missed for it came in such a small box, until I pointed it out to her. My mom and dad held hands and smiled as if they already knew what was inside. Emily opened it and put the engagement ring on her finger and said with tears in her eyes, "yes, I will marry you". She called her parents from my house and screamed the good news. Next June we had planned to be married as both our parents completely supported our future plans. In April, just two months before the big event, Emily began to suffer from severe headaches. A brain tumor was discovered which put her in the hospital. Things turned for the worse and Emily slipped into a coma and eventually by May was put on life support. I sat beside her bed pushed the button on a portable cassette recorder that had our first slow dance song together. "Don't leave me my darling, I need you", was a whisper to her and at the same time a prayer to God. Emily squeezed my hand and then opened her eyes. I yelled for the doctors as they rushed in and witnessed nothing less than a miracle. June came as I kissed my bride and we danced to our favorite song. It was Emily's favorite song...
