"What memory is evoked when having heard this song the first time, recently or whenever . . .?'
"Here is mine--Some of the ladies were talking while sipping pretty-colored liquid drinks while others were inhaling a cigarette while mimicking some biker dude across the floor and me, well I was getting ready to cue up for a nice double-shot with the two and the four perfectly lined up to fall in a corner pocket. I had two choices and then this song comes on and blows my whole train of thought. As a girl I might of opted for the easy way out and used the 'bridge' to reach the shot but Neil gave me confidence and as I kept one foot on the floor and reached around behind my back, as a woman I would do justice for myself as a 'cool pool sharkie'. I gracefully executed a perfect 'english spin' and made the shot without falling on my face.
Lots of hoorah-rahs echoed throughout the bar and I was all smiles and excited to have made the shot and won the game, but more importantly I did not take the easy way out. I used a simple shot, made it more complex, and delivered with professional accuracy, the perfect blow ! Maybe no-one else heard what Neil was singing about but I was certainly paying attention. Good music always accompanies me when I am playing billiards. What is so ironic and cool at the same time is that it just seems whenever I am about to do something unique, extraordinary, out-of-character, I remember Neil’s songs and many many memories come to mind with him telling us his observations and what he would expect.
I saw becoming 20 in a very different light, I mean wow two decades and some of the tests of my patience actually made me better, rather than worse. I figured it would not be as easy as turning to a song every time confusion came along, but it sure does help. In this case, I neither let myself down, my friends nor Mr. Diamond !
Now I was ready, but still, for what ?
