There is a large sect somewhere in the western states that calls themselves Christian (Not!) who are seriously waiting for spaceships to take them away. I read about this awhile back.

This is a great conspiracy theory Rhetta and deserves at least 80 comments. I rate it a 10 on the Henny Penny scale. I remember seeing one of those tabloid newspapers in a grocery store checkout lane that showed a photo of Bill Clinton meeting with aliens. He was probably just visiting with President Obama's family.

I'm poor, I still use VHS tape, but I taped it and there is a lot of parallels between "V" (both the old and new) and what Obama wants to do from his youth corps and socialized medicine. Actually "V" is based on Sinclair Lewis' book, It Can't Happen Here (1934) about a fascistic takeover of the United States.

Jack London wrote a similar book called The Iron Heel where the United States falls to a fascistic/communistic system after a great depression hits in the 1930's. The year he wrote the book, 1908.

I don't think the Alien part is valid, but the way he runs his Office, and the way the "V" run things are very close, in fact too close, and was even in the old series.
Maybe Obama learned how to lead from Watching Diana in the old series?

Yeah, "V" was a way of telling us that it could happen here. Science fiction is often used to tell stories in a way that would get people riled up less. Robert A. Heinlein's book, Starship Troopers, had a background where the U.S. was so weakened by the politically correct crowd running it and so on, much like today, where the military, veterans and like minded people rose up and took the country back.

Think of the TV show "V" vs. "Amerika" where the Soviets and UN take over America. There was lots of guff over "Amerika" while not a lot over "V" so science fiction offers a way to convey a message.

THat is true, and both shows did say a lot the same. I agree abiout many sci-fis too, as they have said a lot of things that came true, but not as they said, but as they discribed.
You could also draw compairisons between H.G. Wells' Morloks from the Time machine, to the Middle East Terrorists today. Yes they Liberals want something done, as they are smart, educated, and passive, but they don't want to get their hands dirty doing what needs done. So the Morloks, kill, enslave, and eat the passive people.
