There are a few love stories in the Bible. The most well known is written poetically in “The songs of Solomon” Real hot stuff there. Most who have read it somehow didn’t see the very romantic story in it. Basically the story goes like this:
There is this very beautiful young girl who has fallen in love with a shepherd. Her brothers don’t appear to approve of the situation, so they try to keep them apart as much as practical. They give her chores in the vineyard and work her hard in the sun (“I am black but comely” was said by a female). She gets a deep tan. Nevertheless, they still find ways to see each other.
One day the king (Solomon?) takes note of her when he is in the area, becomes enamored of her and has her brought to the palace. She is exposed to the lap of luxury, showered with gifts, given servants at her beckon call, placed in one of the best quarters of the palace; she is offered the life of the wife of the king.
But none of that sways her. She has eyes only for humble shepherd boy. One night he somehow sneaks into the castle and raps on her door. She becomes irritated at him for disturbing her at that hour of the night and chases him away, then regrets her actions and flings the door open only to be disappointed that he has left. She runs after him, but is stopped by the night guards who roughly return her to her room.
Of course you can imagine that her girl friends and the other women in the palace are criticizing her for preferring the poor shepherd over the king and the luxuries of palace life, but she can’t help herself; her heart belongs to her shepherd.
Eventually the king releases her and she gets to return to her beloved, but very poor shepherd.
Those who love that sort of thing should really read it. Should make a great romance film.
I’ll give you guys another tomorrow.
