NO SURGERY!!!
The Ortopedic surgeon said so! She separated three ribs from her spine, BUT... (and it's a BIG BUT) they're only PARTIALLY separated with no significant displacement, thus... NO SURGERY!
Her scapula (shoulder blade) is broken, BUT... it's not displaced either, so the proposed across-the-gap plates have been rethought... NO SURGERY!
Only one vertebral process is cracked, AND... it's ONLY cracked, so... NO SURGERY!
We still don't know the proposed plan of treatment, how long she's going to be in the hospital, whether she'll come straight home or go to a rehab bed in a nursing home, will we get some home-visit help, etc. Hope some of that information comes today.

A fracture is still a break, minimal but......
Did the doctor say how the future looks?
What does she want, a nursing home, rehab or home? Does she have a choice??
Our bodies are so weak, just makes me want to scream!! If only it was as strong as our will, and faith.... and your a spiritual person right? This will get you two through this!

We've had a team of surgeons, Family Doctors, Thoracic specialists... I think second opinion has been covered. But I'll get one if theings don't seem to be working out.
Doctors all say that so far as the breaks are concerned, there should be no future effects, As to the MS... things are unlikely to get BETTER.
She won't have a choice. If I can get her into a rehab center, I will.

That is such a scary thing... hope they have enough pain killers to ease her pain.
Chuck, you be sure to take care of yourself. It's easy to neglect your own needs when a dear one is in the hospital.

NO SURGERY? Great news. Please don't forget to take care of yourself and you do truly have all the second opinions covered.
I really feel for you both--it's not easy for either of you. You must stay healthy for her. And if things aren't going the way you even suspect they are, get another opinion.
Just for a slight distraction, a political post might help take your mind off things.

What a rotten piece of luck for Aunt Laura, and what a scary fall! :(
Sounds like she is really toughing it out... sitting up today must have been quite a feat. I'm glad she doesn't need surgery... broken bones really suck, but the fact that they will heal without surgery is encouraging. Hopefully, she'll recover from the fall really well and really fast.
I'd say hug her for me, except that real hugs would hurt :( so... virtual hugs instead.
