Welcome to Today's HelpCenter™ Discussion Post!
The original Gather help series -- assisting members since 2006.
Need a little help, or have a question?
Can't find something? ...or figure out how something works?
Ask other members!
I'm struggling with a rather nasty (and sneaky) computer virus this morning, so I will not be able to post tips for using the update until later today.
Thanks!
Check out THIS ARTICLE..........
I don't know if I have ever heard of this happening before........
I commented on the post, and mentioned that this did happen previously to at least one other member. I don't know what the circumstances were, but Gather was able to recover most of their account info and content.
And, believe me, that is putting it MILDLY............
Thats nice of you to bring this up for Christy .
That is just not right and spooky. I hope all her stuff comes back up..
On the classic page, how do I keep my friends comments from showing? No matter how I set this it keeps showing up.
Do you mean that you do NOT want to see the comments section at the bottom of the page?
Did this section not appear for you previously?
(I'm not quite clear on what the problem is)
Thanks!
This section appears for all members using the classic view. However, it is possible that the default view/filter settings changed to 'all friends' during the update which is what you are currently seeing.
Try using the drop-down selection to choose a friend set to display that doesn't have any comments accrued. That may work for you. You also can create an empty friend set and assign that set to the comment listing.
I'll poke around though and see what else I can come up with for you.
Thanks for your help.
Have you changed the settings for this section (not the drop-down) to not display ANY friend sets, or an empty friend set? If you change both, it should be a permanent fix....but you may still see some existing comments until they drop off your feed in 60 days.
When you switch back to the classic view, it resets this section of the page to the defaults.
Not happy, not happy at all!
Only YOU can see your point total. NO ONE ELSE. Each member only sees their own total.
I hope that helps!

"Yes! in the upper right near the search box.
This is from your profile page...Tasks: 0 Mail: 2 Points: 2,280
XXXXXXX has 1215 points at the start of the day."
Was this information:
Tasks: 0 Mail: 2 Points: 2,280
Appearing in the upper right-hand side of a page, and it is NOT your point total?
Also, do you use AOL or access Gather via the AOL service?
XXXXXXX has 1215 points at the start of the day.
Was this appearing as a status update for you, or someone else?
If it does happen, it is definitely a glitch that Gather will certainly address quickly.
I DO NOT use AOL never have.
I use 4 browsers:
*Opera
Firefox
Chrome
MSN
I can view this data in each and every browser! I really am annoyed at the lack of acceptance on this matter do not dismiss any issue I bring so lightly. I do not yell fire in a crowded room.
THIS IS FROM YOUR PAGE -- Tasks: 0 Mail: 1 Points: 2,288
First of all, I am certainly taking your observations seriously. I am simply trying to understand what you are seeing.
The tasks, mail, and points you are seeing on my page are not mine. I have over 4700 tasks and 9000 points. Thus, the information you are viewing SHOULD BE yours.
If they aren't, then I would suggest SIGNING OUT of Gather using the link in the upper right-hand side of any page. Then clear your browser cache and cookies and then SIGN back IN to Gather.
That may resolve the problem.
Bottom line, I still feel that you respond too quickly with what you think things SHOULD be and NOT the issues expressed!
Thank you for letting me know. Several members do list their points in their status line, and this can easily lead to confusion. I pointed out to you what SHOULD be so that you are aware of the way it is supposed to work. I wanted you to be assured that other members are not seeing your point total when they visit your page.
Once we establish what should be, we can then identify if it isn't working as intended. I'm sorry if that was confusing or aggravating for you.
I emailed the link to the person where this issue began.
I also explained the source of the confusion in my e-mail and I consider the issue closed. It should NOT have taken all of this work to point out the obvious!
I am haveing no problems just wanted to say hello!:)
UPDATE TIP
If you are a group owner, be aware that Gather's new page layout places link text within the upper right portion of your group banner (SIGN OUT | HELP).
Therefore, it is recommended that you visit each of your groups to assess whether changes to your group banner are required to accommodate this modification.
So far Kevin I have not had any problems, but thats because not doing alot of stuff.
Good Update Tip
I hope that I get to lead that group that is open!! Thanks again Kevin letting me know how to go about doing it.
I'll be posting a few more tips relating to the update throughout the day today.

I have run into a technical problem today (a tenacious computer virus) so I have not been able to update the Buzz group (Drama Guide) yet. I hope to be able to do so later today.
However, this group does not actually have ANY content published to it...at this time. Therefore, you WILL see nothing if you include this group in your "My Groups Feed" list. I use RSS to display content in the Drama Guide. This allows me to display drama-related content from anywhere in the community...even if the post is not published to the group.
Are you having this problem with other groups too, or is it limited to the Buzz group?
The best way is Ctrl+F5 as this bypasses your browser's cache and pulls all data from the source.

Sassy sent me to present the following situation before you o Great and Powerful Wizard . . . .
look here i am jumping up and down in my whip creme and dark chocolate pudding referee out ~ oh but who will uptake my challenge and hop in the kiddie pool filled with pudding and wretle naked, um I mean fairly~
I'm selling tickets......
Now Keving back to the question . . . .
I'm off to see....
Ordinarily Ctrl+F5 won't appear to do anything. It only makes a difference if you are experiencing some display or image problems.
In most browsers this combination should minimally refresh the page.
Speaking of bananas, how have the crops been doing?
We have lots and lots of bananas!
UPDATE TIP
When switching between the new and 'classic' view of your home (My Gather) page, you may experience a change in your display settings. This can lead to the page(s) reverting to their default display options.
The possibilities are fabulous.
We're off to see the Wizzard..............
You're right though...there are many great possibilities under this new version name. I can now legitimately be considered as the Wizard of Oz.
ha ha ha
ha ha ha
Thank you!
1. Are you using the new home page, or the 'classic'?
2. Where are these members showing up? ...in your friend feed, or one of the other feeds?
Angela,
I'm sorry that I wasn't available yesterday to respond to your question. I'm glad that you were able to resolve the problem though.
DIANE,
I'll take a look through your recent posts to see if I can locate one that is blank.
I also hope that you have found your son, and that he is safe.
DIANE,
I have not been able to locate any of your recent posts that appear blank. If you can provide me with some additional information I hopefully will be able to help you.
Also, I might be able to assist with your group problem, id that's still happening to you.
Thanks!
