100 days until the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. The torch relay is making its way between Cambell River, BC and and Whitehorse, YT. The relay started on October 30th with Jeneece Edroff lighting the couldron in Victoria. Edroff has raised over $1.5 million for Variety, The Children's Charity of British Columbia; she was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis--causes tumors to grow rapidly throughout the body--at age three. In 100 days the torch will travel 27,962 miles before reaching its resting place in Vancouver. The 2010 Winter Olympics hosts fifteen games: alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross-country, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, nordic combined, short track, skeleton, ski jumping, snow boarding, and speed skating.
Many USA athletes were at Rockefeller Center with the TODAY Show this morning, preparing for their journey up north and reminiscing about Olympics past. Sean White legendary snowboarder and freestyle skier talked about the excitement of getting to compete in another Olympics.
Vancouver is ready to host the Games, and is the perfect place for the Winter sports. VANCO has also put together a state-of-the-art anit-doping program with the main goal of detection/deterrance and education. Over 2,000 urine and blood tests will be given, both for the Olympic and Paralympic Games--the most tests ever given during any Olympic Games.
The thing for spectators to buy this year are red mittens with the Maple Leaf and Vancouver 2010 on them. They should be a hit considering the cold temperatures predicting in Vancouver 100 days from now.
