Wish I could make but I will be teaching. I spend the day with my kitties, if I have nothing going on. Reading with a cat in my lap is a perfect way to spend my free time.

I'll try to remember. I have a cat that my husband and I adopted when he was 7 weeks old, today he is ten years old, spoiled rotten. He is our baby.

Crystal is right here with me. We adopted her 10 years ago and she is an inside kitty. The only thing different with her, we can never hold her???? She was left at a vet's door step and was foster cared until we adopted her. My son named her because at the time we had a dog named Charlie who weighed 171 lbs. He wanted to name the cat with the letter C also.

Does anyone else have the same problem where their cat will not let them hold them?
sally g. Nov 3, 2009, 9:04pm EST
Yes we have a cat that is that way. But we ended up getting her when she was 3 years old. she will let you hold her for a few seconds then you have to let her down.
Amanda "middle of nowhere" C. Nov 3, 2009, 9:14pm EST
My first cat, Tigger, was like this. She didn't want to be petted. I tried several treats until I found a brand she liked. Then I tried positive reinforcement. I would pick her up and make her sit in my lap and be petted and then reward her with a few treats. I started out in small amounts of time, like even five seconds. But it worked very quickly. And eventually the treats were optional and Tigger was sitting wherever I was.
Debbie W. Nov 3, 2009, 9:15pm EST

What is the purrrfect way to spend a day to yourself?

How about a nice coffee, getting my nails done, lunch and a little shopping with a good friend! Then a nice hot relaxing bath at the end of the day in my jetted tub!

Annemarie-we have 4 cats and only one will let us hold him. I've found that can be pretty typical. My cat I had years ago would only allow you to hold him if you were standing. Forget trying to sit with him!
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:07pm EST
Isn't that strange Kim. I know that cats pick their person but mine has picked none of us.
Kim M. Nov 3, 2009, 9:09pm EST
Our Sam has picked my husband. He's the cuddlebug. he actually drives us crazy because he wants to be held so much. Our runt molly loves to sit on my lap. Right now she's behind my head because I have my laptop. She won't let us pick her up for anything though!

Peyton loves to be held. And I never thought I would admit this to anyone but, He likes it when I rock him in the rocking Chair.
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:06pm EST
RobbinLynn, that is so adorable. I wish Crystal would let me hold her. If I am on the couch she will jump and sit near me but once I try and hold her, down she jumps.

About 3 years ago we did an addition on our house, added a mater bed/bath and I FINALLY got me a jetted tub! I LOVE it!
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:18pm EST
Good for you. When my son graduates this year I told my hubby that I want a bigger place so I can have more animals. Maybe a jetted tub would be nice too.

sally g. Nov 3, 2009, 9:07pm EST
wow a lot of cats
sally g. Nov 3, 2009, 9:08pm EST
I have 4 mini Dachshunds and 3 mini baby dachshunds. And 3 cats
Bridget ♥ Nov 3, 2009, 9:09pm EST
That's neat that you rescured all of them! Any plans to get more?
Janet H. Nov 3, 2009, 9:11pm EST
I don't plan to get more cats but my daughter just rescued 5 kittens, less than 6 weeks old, that someone brought to animal control and the pound was going to kill them. She has them in a box at her house and is bottle feeding the smallest ones and giving the others food from a dish. She also brought home a pit bull that the pound was about to destroy.
Debbie W. Nov 3, 2009, 9:12pm EST
WOW, I've done that before. I found homes for over 200 when I lived in NY
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:17pm EST

Good Lord! 12 Cats How do you keep track of them all?
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:09pm EST
12 cats..OMG you must use up a lot of litter!
Janet H. Nov 3, 2009, 9:13pm EST
We use loads of kitty litter! But I know all the cats by name and I don't get them mixed up. I keep the guest room door shut and also my daughter's door to keep the cats out of those rooms.
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:16pm EST
Janet, wow, litter is expensive. I have to scoop it everytime she pees or she justs sits near the litter box. She is so different.
Janet H. Nov 3, 2009, 9:23pm EST
We buy a generic cat litter at a discount store and it costs less there. I don't get the clumping kind. Sometimes we get litter at Sam's club in 50 pound bags. We dump, wash and refill our 5 litter boxes once or twice a day.
RobbinLynn B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:25pm EST
Keeps you busy,I'am sure.
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:35pm EST

My perfect way to spend the day with no company or responsibilities is to spend it with my 3 dogs, a lab and 2 pit bulls. I like to train the dogs and to play with them and to just pet them. And, yes, I give them kisses! I like to relax reading dog training books and right now I am reading Cesar Millan's "A Member of the Family."
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:11pm EST
Now that our dog has passed on it took a lot of time to get another one. He is Yogi and he is a handful. He eats his loveseat.
Debbie W. Nov 3, 2009, 9:14pm EST
The dogs get along with all the cats?
Janet H. Nov 3, 2009, 9:19pm EST
My dogs and cats get along great. They even sleep together sometimes. My one cat likes to use my bigger pit bull's chin to scratch the top of her head.
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:21pm EST
My dog sleeps on one end of our couch and Crystal sleeps on the other end. But boy can they fight when Yogi wants to play and Crystal doesn't he keeps bothering her and finally the claws come out

Only turkey breast in tiny pieces and we have to block her food and litter from our bull dog or he will eat anything

Peyton loves ice-cream, Vanilla only.
Janet H. Nov 3, 2009, 9:25pm EST

Today I was interviewed by a lady from the Flint newspaper who is doing pit bull stories for the paper on Thursday and on Sunday. The Thursday story will be about how the police MURDERED my daughter's friendly, loving, sweet, loyal pit bull in his own yard. He has never hurt or even threatened anyone and they shot and killed him. We hope the TV will do a story on it too. The Sunday article is about pit bulls in general in this area and about the area's efforts to try to ban them. The reporter was looking for pit bull owners and lovers to quote from. She wanted to come over and pet and photograph my pit bulls but it was late and we work tomorrow, so she did the interview over the phone instead.
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:20pm EST
Janet, how did the interview go?
Janet H. Nov 3, 2009, 9:27pm EST
The interview went well and the newspaper lady was very nice. I sent her number to Shannon (Aunt Shanny) and asked her to call her because the newspaper lady wanted to talk to her too. I hope she will call. We need all the positive press for pit bulls that we can get!
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:28pm EST
send me the article in my mail if you can. I would love to see it.
Michelle S. Nov 3, 2009, 9:49pm EST
janet you should do a post here with a link to the article. it's so important that people know it's not a breed of dog that makes it bad. people make dogs bad.

I'm joining this a little late, so I hope my comments aren't too far off topic.

My cat was a stray and for years, I would put food out and go back in the house and watch her eat through the window. Now, she is is my constant companion. She knows one way to lift my mood and help me relax. When I turn off the lights to go to bed, fix my pillows and lay on my side. A few minutes later, the cat will show up. She lines herself up as close to my bag as possible and then just leans in until she slide down onto the bed. It's such a comfort and I think it's her way of wishing me a good night.
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:27pm EST
Amanda, that sounds like a really great cat.

My other cat Lucky died on 9/11 and was born on St Patricks Day 1996? i think. It was my sisters cat, she left it with my mom when she moved out. I had mom move from NY to FL with me, along came Lucky. Then he became mine when mom died 5 yrs ago.

my perfect day? sleeping in, a long hot bath, and a good book
Debbie W. Nov 3, 2009, 9:28pm EST
I don't think i've taken a bath in years. Always a shower. I don't know if I could get my big ol' butt back up if i sat down in the tub-lol

ha-ha, Debbie! too funny! I don't sleep much, having two two-year olds, so a bath is a good excuse to lay down for a bit!

Would't it be great if we could have Video Camers up, so we all could see each other's PetS?
Annmarie B. Nov 3, 2009, 9:29pm EST
I have a camera and video right on my computer but my cat wouldn't let me pick her up to show her off.

That would be neat! My 3 dogs are all asleep on my bed. And the cats are sleeping scattered around the house.
