The economy is keeping more and more of us at home these days. No extra money for eating out or going to the movies. There are still many things that we can do that is free. The State parks have hiking trails and they are free to hike. Taking my camera on a hike is a great way to get those out of the way shots that I love so much.
I love to read. Reading can take you on trips without ever leaving your home. The library has many books that are free to check out. Most libraries also sell some books for just a donation. Our local library does not offer videos to sign out but I know many do. It is a great way to get to view a movie that you would not normally get to view and it is free.
So my I suggest that as we are all staying cozy in our homes this winter that we may spend some quality time reading a good book.
What are you currently reading?
I am trying to figure out a way that we could have a book club on Gather. Maybe we could all read the same book and chat about it each night or once a week. Would you join and participate if we had such a club on Gather? Do you have any ideas on this? Are you a member of a book Club?
Do you post book reviews on Gather?

You could start an "official" book club group that assigns a new book every month. Then, you can have people post their reviews on those books to that group or provide a post for them to comment on them.
I also wanted to mention, on the side, something about our state parks here in California. They are suffering, financially and are raising fees, closing activities or implementing fees for things that used to be free.
I love listening to Books on CD when we travel.
It might be free to hike and such, but you need to pay for parking.
Though the best places to go are where people are not and we have lots of government land here that are free :0) Who is going to dare ticket anyone out there?
Reading is a great idea!!
Elliott is almost 4 now, so he's really getting into board games. He has Candy Land, Memory, Chutes and Ladders, and a couple of character games. We also have 3 more in his box of Christmas gifts, so I'm sure they will keep us entertained a lot this winter. ;) There's also a Geo Trax set with some extra stuff coming to him for Christmas, so I'm sure we will play with that together some, too.
As far as reading, I'm getting ready to start reading "Names My Sisters Call Me" by Megan Crane. A few of my friends are reading it, too. We're trying to start a small book club type thing. This is our first book, though, and I think the last two people got it today.
I'm reading Ted Dekker's Black.
We don't do much outside in the winter (I'm a wimp and hate cold weather) so we will have to find other ways to fill in our walks. Elliott is going to receive a few board games from us and from his maw-maw in Georgia for his birthday and Christmas, so we will be busy with that too. He's also getting two new (well, used from Amazon) books from the "Otto" series by Todd Parr. He LOVES the two he has, so I am sure we will be reading the new ones over and over, in addition to the other books we are constantly reading together.
This time of year is so busy for us, but after the holidays I am going to start Preschooling Elliott regularly. I'm not going to force it on him, but he likes to do his "homework" and I bought character workbooks and flashcards from the Dollar Tree and the $1 spot at Target. I plan to start taking him to story hour at the library too, since they run it during the school year.
All the books I have read this year I have gotten from my local library.
This summer I participated in the Adult Reading Summer program and read 10 books.
I enjoy reading and I would like to be part of a book club as long as the book that is chosen is available from the library. I have only shared one book review and I hope to share more with gather members.
Not many go for my general tastes. Unless it is about star wars stuff, and I dropped that once I read that chewabacca died in one book.
