There are five Feeds presented on the left side of the My Gather page. These feeds progress from the most focused to the broadest views of Gather. Starting with:
My friends
My interests
My groups
Gather Essentials
All of Gather (including recent content, popular content and staff picks)
Use these five feeds to adjust what you see on the main part of your My Gather page. Ads have been removed from this page to give you more space for viewing content.

The five Feeds are color coded. When you click on the ‘My friends’ feed on the left you’ll see a light blue color around the My Friends link and this blue color will continue across the option bar above your friend feed. In the feed, customize just what you want your feed to show you. For example, if you want to see the photos by your friends and the member updates by your friends then only check off those two choices. If you want to see the posts, photos and comments, check off those three choices. If you want to only see comments then only check the comment choice. If you never want to see member updates, don't check that off. You are able to completely customize this area to see as little or as much as you want to see.

Progress down the left side of the page to the My Interests feed (green) and you’ll notice the green color will continue across the option bar above your interests feed on the right. You can customize this feed just as you did your Friend Feed for posts, photos and videos.
You can adjust settings for each of your feeds. By clicking on the settings link within each feed on the left of the page you can adjust which friends, interests or groups you want to see on the right side of your page. For example, click on the settings link under My Groups on the left. You’ll be able to choose just which groups you want to keep up with in your group feed and which you don’t. Give it a try. Move things around and see which content is delivered to your feed on the right. Settings can be adjusted whenever you want.
If you want to save the new My Gather page, update this in your account settings. If you change your mind, just update your account settings again.

I like seeing the alerts at the top of every page too.
What do others see when they come to my profile page if I change my Gather page to the new view? Does it affect what others see at all or will they still see the same profile page that they have always seen?
I looked at a few profiles before I ask this question and they looked the same to me as before
Click on the bold "all of Gather Feed" next to the small "g" and above "most popular". That feed is all the recent content and can be adjusted so you receive only posts or photos or videos or any combination of the 3 content types in your feed.
This is my problem:
One thing I can't stand is when I click "back" from viewing a post, it doesn't go back to the last feed page I was on. It goes back to the start. So if I was three pages in, click back, then I'm back to page one and have to find my spot again.
Also, the most popular tab needs to be fixed. It used to be, that articles were ranked by the highest views and comments, now it takes into accounts keywords, which means a terrible article with only a few views and hardly any comments can get ranked in the most popular section.
From the posts I've seen, People on Gather want 2 things: 1) They want to provide content of value with a fair compensation and a free exchange of ideas. 2)They want the "False Flaggers" to have ramifications for flagging content for the simple reason of disagreement. These are people, predominantly on the Left of the political spectrum, who flag content just because they disagree with the author, while at the same time leaving the most vile personal attacks and slander against the author.
It would be nice to flag an individual comment, instead of the entire article. Some people are really vile and sometimes vicious in their personal attacks.
I've discovered some excellent new writers today that I probably would not have stumbled over otherwise~
The upgrade is interesting; I'm playing around with it.
