Ford Motor Co, the only car builder who didn't take up the grants from the government and went it alone when GM and Chrysler went to the wall, have just posted their first profit for 4 years. A $997Ml profit from its global market has sent the American Unions back to the pigs trough chasing workers benefits, the same ones which sent GM to the wall. These benefits over and above the value of a fair days pay for a fair days work, or as we like to put it, we will pay you $20 an hour, you give me an hour of work, and if you stay for 12 months we will pay you holiday pay and a dozen or so sick days a year, then throw some in for super for your retirement. Sounds fair, but the unions want more and more. Sometimes they never learn.
Ever wonder why companies try to reduce their work force and put machinery in place of them?
Look at this, there are 365 days in a year, out of this you get 104 days off for weekends, then you will get app, (depending on country) 25 days of public holidays off, have your dozen or so of sick days, then take your 20 days of holidays(4weeks) so you actually only work for 190 od days in every year. A company who employs you has to pay RENT, RATES, Security, Elictricity, Utilities, advertizing, maintiance and a million things more for 365 days 24 hours a day every year and produce and sell a product just so you can have a job making it for them.
These unions ridiculous demands for free family education, free cars, free housing, free lunches, free health for your whole family, free dental for your whole family, free fuel card and free everything else, just about killed the Auto Industry in America and In GM Germany who used the same formula. Most of these except for home, fuel and car should be provided by governments not companies trying to create jobs and build businesses.
All of these demands cost, they cost customers of your company, they cost jobs, they cost profits which cost expansion, and they cost development of new products which make a company successful. Being an Auto worker is not a job for gods of the union and Unions have destroyed Detroit and turned it into a ghost town. Unions have destroyed all the spin off industries from Auto manufacturers and sent companies offshore to China and other places when maybe if they accepted a fair days pay for a fair days work, everyone would still have a job and Companies would not have moved off shore.
Unions see sucess and jump in their jackboots and head out with banners in hand, bib around their necks, stripped butchers apron on, knife sheath full of rusty bloodied knives from their last conquest,(GM) demanding to feed like blind wild pigs, until they see the company looking like a 1920's coal mine and only Trabants parked in the staff carpark.
LEAVE FORD ALONE!!!

LEAVE FORD ALONE!!!
I am In Australia, and this is not a term I am familiar with.
You blame the production workers and the union for destroying companies when they fail or don't perform well, and yet when a company like Ford posts a billion dollar quarterly profit, you not only don't give the production workers or the union any credit, you continue to accuse them of "trying to kill off Ford"? Bizarre.
By Contrast:
Three (3) of the major Banks in Australia, who employ under 20,000 people just (November 2009) reported a first 1/4 earnings of over $3.7Bl CASH Profit EACH!, not including their investment profits. (The lowest was $3.7blAU ($3.6US) for a quarter of a year.
As you can see for the number of people employed by Ford and their value return for employer is very very low.
