About five days ago, as of this writing, I innocently posted a photo passed on to me by a series of strangers. They knew only that I was interested in such photo's which represented to me, anyway, why we are involved in what has become to be known as 'the Long War'. At that moment, I was under the impression that it was just taken in Afghanistan. It was not, It was taken in Iraq almost exactly three years ago.
One of the most striking things about this photo was that within minutes, minutes mind you, I started getting responses to it. In fact, Within minutes I had already received as much attention as do my various sites, in a day.
Subsequently I had to log-off the internet for several days due to lack of bandwidth- I use Verizon Wireless and am limited to 5 gigabytes or I am financially penalized, big time. When I logged back on I was shocked & surprised once again. Forty-Four new readers had read & reblogged the photo. Forty-Four new readers I had never, ever met nor seen before.
I have amended the original post to reflect it's true origin, and given this same comment as to why I published it to begin with. One, We are there to support our troops, our friends, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews, and neighbors. To serve them and to the best of our abilities, to protect them. But we are also there to serve and protect little girls like the one in this photograph. To do just exactly what Chief Master Sergeant John Gebhardt did.
