You know, I've been staying away from Gather politics, for the most part, of late. The number of people that I don't agree with spans from Obama zombies with stars in their eyes, to the far right wing nuts, and for good reason. Lessor of two evils is just that, and I'm tired of defending on the one hand, and inserting a little realism into the conversation on the other, with people that are totally unreasonable. Still, a reasonable man can take only one message from the health care debate, and that is no matter the party, although one of them is almost unanimous in prostituting themselves to monied interests, the other seems to be shielding a significant number of less than virtuous whores, as well. The result? The obvious fact that there's a big "for sale" sign on our entire congress and senate these days, and the purchase is merely a dicker of rates away. The article I'm linking to here, that made me come back and post this article, is one everyone, especially Democrats, need to read, IMnsHO, and you can find it HERE

We need an affordable, public option or fully nationalized plan.
You must do your part to help them keep all the money, die very soon after you can no longer work.
And it's time for our representatives to figure out they've made all the money they'll ever need for generations to come and sell out their corporate masters. And if they don't, we should not stop at voting them out. We should make their lives living hell.
He hasn't from the beginning, & never will, EM.
Insurance companies are one of many groups who've benefited over the years from the ownership of politicians. In the 19th century railroads, oil companies, mining companies, food processing companies, and others did very well with a little help from government.
I have informed Dick Durbin, Senate Majority Whip and one of my senators, that if healthcare reform with a strong public option is not passed, that I will fight tooth and nail for his defeat at the polls regardless of his own vote on the issue. (I also mentioned that I placed scores of calls into both Wisconsin and Indiana in support of the Party's candidate for president in the last election.)
Here's a good one for you: Roland Burris, my other senator and the laughing stock of America for having been appointed by indicted former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, has said he will only support a bill with a strong public option.
BHO is almost literally phoning it in at this point. Call the White House switchboard, as I have, and let the friendly volunteer know that you support a strong public option for healthcare.
Good and timely article, Ron.
For what its worth, and speaking as one who lives in a country with national public healthcare, neither my grandmother who needed a hip operation, nor my mother who needed the same plus a knee op, nor my cousin who needed intensive coronary care, not my own daughter who was threatened with a heart murmur that proved to be benign, have worried about socialised medicine, or death panels, or any of the other bizarre claims I've been reading about.
For those who have predicted the end of the civilised world because of this, I suggest you take a Prozac.
