"If I Had A Hammer..." Dexter learns more about Trinity's life, leading him to discover the reason behind his murders. Note that this article is filled with episode 6 spoilers...
The Miami Metro has cracked down on the "Vacation Murderers" holding his girlfriend in jail for questioning. They think the "Vacation Murderers" killed Lundy and shot Deb. Deb goes on an emotional hunt to get the girlfriend to confess to shooting her. Until she discovers that some of Lundy's evidence about Trinity, that the department took from his hotel room, has gone missing--little does Deb know Dexter was the one who took them.
Dexter continues his quest to learn more about Trinity, or Arthur Mitchell as he is known by his family and community. He learns that Arthur is a family man, he is greatly involved in his Church and community, and teaches inspiration to young children. Episode 6 Dexter infiltrates Arthur's life by telling him he was kicked out of his house, separated from his wife, and was at the Church to "find something." Arthur (Trinity) takes Dexter under his wing, inviting him to help build houses with his charity. Dexter is so good about keeping his enemies close, however he is lacking in being a good husband and father.
It has taken Deb until episode 6 to get Dexter to see a marriage counselor. The counselor does not help Dexter as much as Trinity does. In order for Dexter to learn more about Trinity he gets himself access to Arthur's house, by cutting himself after helping with the hosues. He snoops around trying to find something, what he learns is that Arthur hides his truths out in the open, blending them into his home--unlike Dexter who hids his truths in another apartment. Arthur helps Dexter realize that he needs to "jump in with both feet" and his family can help shape him. I feel as though Dexter is looking up to Trinity as a type of role model; seeing that they have similar lives.
Dexter decides to get rid of his apartment when Rita agrees to give him a space for his stuff. They build a shed where Dexter can keep his stuff. Rita actually helps Dexter lift his trunk, this shows that Dexter, like Trinity, is moving towards keeping his "truths" out in the open of his family, just disguised as normal things.
Meanwhile in episode 6 LaGuerta and Bastista come to regret their decision to go public with their relationship when the chief advises them that one will have to change departments, however they decide to play by the rules and sign an alpha david insisting that their relationship will not affect their job performances. However, one slip up could cost them both their jobs.
Deb realizes that the Vacation Murderers have nothing to do with Lundy's death and it was Trinity. The investigation of Trinity's last murder is occupying the office and they are getting warmer to finding him. Dexter has to work really hard to stay ahead of them.
Dexter's new found bond with Arthur Mitchell leads him to be handed Trinity's latest murder weapon, the hammer. Arthur thought Dexter needed his own tools to build the next house, however I think that Trinity is no ammature and has a motive for giving Dexter the murder weapon. I am a little worried for Dexter and hope that he can handle whatever comes his way.
