"Will Gather be changing the "Essential" groups in any way to accommodate the new "Socialwrite" program?"The new groups are:

Share your tips for making your house beautful and gardens bountiful.
Note: The Celebs Essential and Sports Essential groups are both closely tied into Gather's accelerated content production goals under the "Socialwrite" program. The remaining groups will therefore likely play a secondary role, if they are ultimately used at all.
Good Morning
How are you today??
I have so much to do today I do not know if my head is screwed on tight enough to get every done..lol
G'morning Janet! ...I hope you had your Wheaties today!
...and good luck trying to get it all done!
Look for my return after the site update this week!
I'll be happy to provide you with personalized recommendations for optimizing your content on Gather.
Request a review on any daily "Content Clinic" post or within the group (contentclinic.gather.com).
More information coming soon!
Good morning DD!
Many members can receive the same results for their content, simply by making a few easy adjustments.
For example, a recipe with the title "Stuffed Pepper Recipe" can potentially gain FIVE times the number of potential readers than a post with the title "Stuffed Green Pepper Recipe".
By the way, did you read my responses to you from the other day?
I created the group back in August, but changed the group to private so that I could make some modifications to the optimization index (a categorized post outlining optimization info). I hope to make it public tomorrow.
I also discovered (I tested it) and on Redgage you can steal photos - they just make you feel guilty if you do. Once you get that message - Please do not steal our photos - if you just continue on - you can steal the photos. Damn I though they had that right click thing going...
DD,
As I mentioned previously, there are many ways to protect your photos on Gather...although no method is foolproof (anywhere). For example, you can:
- Add watermarks (as you are doing currently).
- Reduce the size of your photo, but add a matte and/or a frame to bring the width up to 550px.
- Place photos in a photo essay/post in such a way that right-clicking on your photos does not work.
These are a few of the measures you can take yourself. Gather has many additional options at their disposal, but each would require technical implementation. My "Freezing Stuffed Peppers" post that I published October, 2008 had gotten 1,241 views. It has been picking up about 7 views per day. It is ranked #2 on Google search for that topic.
There are two primary components to a great title. First, including the search terms that most people would use to discover content on that subject. Second, making the title captivating, which would draw a reader to YOUR post ahead of others. In your case "photo essay with recipes" is a great way to capture attention.
DD,
I have a post ready that provides a lot of detail about how to optimize your content...including the title to use, tags, photos, etc. I'll be releasing that tomorrow when I make the Content Clinic group public.
I edited a lot of my post titles to try to make them more attractive. It's interesting sometimes the posts of mine that get the most views.
These groups have not been created with current members in mind. They will primarily serve the next member to Gather...and photo content won't allow Gather to meet its page view goal, no matter how talented the photographer.
It will be interesting to see if Gather actually does anything with some of these groups. They can't manage to moderate and maintain the groups they have now...so adding more will just exacerbate the problem (at least for members that are not "Socialwrite" participants).
(Btw, I've really had your mother (and you too) on my mind.....I truly hope she is doing well!!!)
Hello gorgeous! ...and I know what you mean about catching up. It's practically impossible.
I'll try and send some sun your way.
Sophie,
Officially, all content you share on Gather should be created by you...or you must have the rights to publish it here.
HOWEVER, if you violate this policy, Gather will only take action against you under a specific set of circumstances. Thus, copy & paste does take place, and can.
Would you like more specifics?
Copyright violation is illegal except in cases of fair use.
That is disappointing. I thought that you were not allowed to copy/paste, but if you added something to it to make it your own that was allowed. It's upsetting to see someone make post after post of copyrighted material, not mention the source and not add anything of their own to it.
Sophie,
There IS something that you can do about this, and Gather WILL take action. I'll provide more detail in my next comment.
Under Gather's new points policy, members that publish a lot of content that they did nor create themselves (copy & paste) can have their points turned off, and in some cases they will have to remove content that does not belong to them.
For Gather to take action, most of the content this member shares would have to be C&P (unless that content is considered to be a public service announcement, like a recall notice).
Simply report them via a Member Support form and provide URLs to some of the content in question.
Gather may also take action even if MOST of the content they share isn't original (less than 50%). It would depend upon the potential points this member is earning from the content.
If you would like my personal opinion and recommendation, send me a mail message with a link.
I hope that helps!
Purrrrr.... at this point, I don't know if that timing has been changed or not. However, Gather often does not provide much notice prior to updates, so you can never really be certain.
As for the changes, I am only aware of what I have already commented on over the past few days. There is likely to be more. This change should be beneficial (hopefully), unlike many of the other changes that have come before.
I might have known the words "twitter" and "facebook" would be in it somewhere. :op
alright off to see the linky thingy~
Hello everyone! ...Thanks for taking the time to stop by and say Hi!
Have a great week!
In my panic, I deleted the whole thing. So now I have to start all over again. Was there something I could have done besides delete it to save me from reloading the photos?
It was a pumpkin cheesecake pie!!!!! mmmmmmmm
hahaha!
Yes, you could have changed the viewing rights to 'private' (just you). HOWEVER, I wouldn't recommend that because your post would no longer be considered 'new' and no additional notification will be sent out (unless it is a group content email notification)...and it will not appear in anyone's feed.
Thanks!
Hi, Kevin.
Link to "I tried to use a box! haha!
Wow! ...that looks fantastic!
Although it does highlight a problem with Gather's post editor. Your text is squished up against the right side of the call-out box because that's how Gather treats images and other objects.
Thanks for pointing this out, as I can correct for this problem in the code. In the interim, I can tell you what to add to fix it...if you want.
It's fine the way it is now. I have something to look forward to, making the next one better!
Thank you! :o)
When a group leader is suspended from Gather, how can someone else take leadship over that group so it can still survive on Gather???
Good morning!
If the person is no longer a member (there are 0000's in the username), then you may send a request in to Gather to take over the group. Be certain to include the group's username (xxxxxxxx.gather.com) in your Member Support form.
Good luck!
Thank you
You are a doll!! {{{{{hugs}}}}
I had that problem too. Although it doesn't appear to happen every time.
