President Obama has been stumping for New Jersey Democratic Governor Jon Corzine. Corzine is up for re-election in one of two crucial governor races. Polls indicate a very close race with Republican Chris Christie. Obama is urging Corzine supporters to get out and drive up voter turnout, just like they did for him a year ago. New Jersey seems to be the best bet for a Democratic victory because....
the other race in Virginia has Republican contender Bob McDonnell poised for victory over Creigh Deeds. McDonnell enjoys a double-digit in nearly all recent polls.
But the administration is smirking a little after upstate New York republican congressional candidate Dede Scozzafava withdrew from the race and threw her support behind Democratic candidate Bill Owens. An independent candidate, Conservative Party's Doug Hoffman, is also in the race and leads in the polls by a mere one percent. The problem here though is that only about 19 percent of those that supported Scozzafava say they are Democrats. It is viewed that her endorsement of Owens will have little or no effect.
With the Virginia race "out of reach", the Obama Administration is hoping to garner two out of three victories. This would help to save face and not serve as a much of a referendum on President Obama.
However, a sweeping Democratic defeat could be seen as a prelude to next year's mid-term elections. Time will tell.

It was a mixed election and overall I don't think it was the defeat some are trying to make it. The Administration got its butt handed to it in 2 out of 3 but the GOP "leadership" gave the Dems the race in NY. I think both sides should back up and do some rethinking. I doubt it will happen actually with the Dems in general though the Blue Dogs have noticed for sure. The GOP leadership needs to do some serious thinking before floating another such candidate in a district that won't support them.
