It seems that after a dramatic beginning to season four of Brothers & Sisters, things are slowing down just a bit. Last week's episode was actually a happy episode, even with its drama. No episode is without some drama for the Walker family. That is unheard of for this family. Looks like we are gearing up for a dramatic episode this week as we know from the previews the prodigal son Tommy returns to the house from his trip to Mexico. Is he a new man, and what will happen between him and his mother Nora? They didn't exactly leave things the best when he left home. This week's episode is titled Zen and the Art of Making Mole. Before we get into the episode, there is new from behind the scenes of Brothers & Sisters. Apparently, a switch has been made with the person in charge. David Marshall Grant has been with the series since 2006 as a writer and this season he has also produced four episodes. Now he is the man in charge. The former showrunners, Monica Breen and Alison Schapker, will remain involved with the series as executive producers.
This week's episode of Brothers & Sisters opens with Sarah still sneaking around with Luc. The kids go off to school, and he shows up at her backdoor ready to make her day. He even makes her lunch! Talk about service. Not only is he taking care of her, but when it looks like the Walker house might have a burglar, he rushes in to save the day. However, it is no burglar, but Tommy's return. As soon as the family know Tommy is back, they all have questions and things they need to tell him or have his help with. He looks calm and very zen like, but once there is a family meeting for everyone to see him, he starts to look overwhelmed.
He has returned for Kitty. He feels bad that he hasn't been there to help her through her illness. Nora plans a big Walker family dinner, but in the planning Tommy ends up wanting to cook for everyone - a fabulous mole. Nora finally gets through to his wife, and she learns Julia is soon to be his ex-wife. The two have filed for divorce, and Tommy hasn't even made any effort to contact his daughter like he said he had been doing. When Nora confronts him about this, the two end up once again fighting. Tommy quickly calms back down though., and everyone is wondering where the old Tommy is, especially Justin. A Walker Family dinner would be incomplete without a Walker Family fight. Nora makes snide remarks throughout the start of it, and everything about Tommy finally comes out. Rebecca and Scotty lead the kids out while Nora and Tommy once again have it out, and this time he does lose his cool and leaves the room.
However, it isn't like his usual blow-up. Nora is obviously upset, and Kitty offers her an ear. Tommy was always the perfect child growing up, and now he is so far from that. In true Kitty form, she also goes to Tommy, who plans to leave the next day. She talks to him about her son Evan and her cancer. This gives him some food for thought for his own situation with his little girl.
Holly is still having her financial issues as well. All her money is now gone, and she is trying to find a way to get it back or rebuild her savings. Every option looks like a dead end. Her only option that looks like it might work is getting Sarah behind Rebecca's cheap wine idea. With Tommy's return though, Sal is hoping Tommy will have a better idea, but Tommy doesn't look ready to jump back into Ojai. There are issues there though. Sal catches Ryan going through Holly's office and papers. Ryan covers it up though, and Sal believes him. Something tells me there is more to it than that though. We learn there is when Ryan once again with the man trying to take down Ojai. Ryan wants out, but he is convinced to stay. Holly has managed to convince Sarah as well. This new man even offers to buy Holly's share of Ojai at double the price, but she says no.
As for Kevin and Scotty, they are still trying to have a baby. Things are moving forward with the surrogacy, but when Kevin turns lawyer on the baby carrier Michelle and produces a contract for their arrangement everything ends up going to hell. After Tommy's divorce news, Scotty and Kevin make up, and they make a new plan to find a surrogate through the agency. Kevin has a change of heart though and goes to Michelle to change her mind about being their surrogate, and he manages to do it. Sarah ends this episode as well. We see her being found out by her kids, and Luc ends up moving in with her. The fantasy of a French man turns into what looks like the reality of a relationship. We also see Tommy's departure, and instead of returning to Mexico, he is going to Seattle to be closer to his daughter. Seems like Nora and Kitty both managed to get through to him after all!
