I went to the grocery store on the way home, and found out that they had a Halloween event that day, including (supposedly) pumpkin coloring contest, cookie decorating, etc. After Kyleigh came back from the Gym class, we took her there. But the store was quite unorganized and the employees had no idea when or where the pumpkin coloring contest was, or any trick-or-treat giveaways. Finally we found a cookie decorating booth, which was nothing but an employee decorating the cookies by herself, and it wasn't even open for the kids to play. The employee was very nice though, and offered Kyleigh a cookie. There were many designs, and we asked Kyleigh to pick one. Kyleigh was being very shy so Daddy picked a skull head for her. I knew Kyleigh was a little afraid of skulls (from last night) and she didn't look too happy, so I kept asking her if she wanted a different one. Finally she told me quietly that she wanted a ghost cookie. Daddy exclaimed, "But you already have a ghost cookie!" Both Kyleigh and I said, "No!" As it turned out, Daddy had mistaken the skull head for the ghost. So he intended to take a ghost cookie when he grabbed the skull head.

For the real Halloween night, we decided to go to the Fair Oaks Mall instead of walking outside in the dark around the neighborhood. It turned out pouring rain that evening anyway.
The event was from 5:30 PM to 7 PM, but I couldn't get my husband out of the door on time, so we didn't get there until 6:30 PM, and there wasn't much time left. The Mall was packed, probably because everyone else wanted to stay indoors too. Many stores were already out of candies. Every store that still participated in Trick-or-Treating had a long line. There was no way I could take a picture during the event.
One store was giving away stickers instead of candies. When Kyleigh saw the sticker being put in her basket, I could just tell from her face that she was thinking, "Man, I waited in line for so long for this? I want candies!" (LOL)
Kyleigh was happy when candies were dropped in her basket, but otherwise, she was bored standing in line, and I don't blame her. The half hour trick-or-treating was probably good, because Kyleigh was out of excitement by the end of it. If we had been there right at 5:30 PM, we probably would have had more fun.
On the way home, Kyleigh kept digging into her pumpkin basket and said, "Hao duo tang guo yo (So many candies)!" There really was only a thin layer of candies at the bottom of her basket. But it sure looked pretty nice. Here is a picture of her loot:

Out of all the candies, her favorite was either a strawberry lollipop, or this bag of bone shaped candies. For some reason, she is really fascinated with bones and she always pretends she's eating bones. However, she only likes to play with these bone candies and wouldn't eat any (which is fine with me).

That concludes Kyleigh's First Halloween experience. We asked her to think about what she wants to be next year. This year we didn't really spend much on costume because we weren't sure how it would turn out.
