This season of the Amazing Race has had its fair share of strange exits. Last week we had the famous no slide ending while this week the show ended with its first (as far as I can remember) team quitting the race. After learning that they were flying to the Netherlands, all teams were equalized at the airport thanks to a late flight. There they spent some time bonding where the brothers finally revealed that they were gay. It wasn't that big of a deal to us viewers, but seemed to create a large impact on the alliance between the ladies as the brothers broke free and began leaving them in the dust.
The first task in Finland was to start their luxury cars and find a statue. Ericka/Brian had trouble with the car starting part and that put them far behind as they bickered the whole way there. After gaining their first clues teams then headed to a bell tower for their Road Block had one member counting the bells. All the teams finished fairly quickly except for Ericka who struggled with the counting. Didn't Brian remember last time they had to count? She just sat back and watched, and even complained, during the gold counting bit.
The brothers, Sam I believe, also showed his alliance shifting skills. He and Meghan worked together to count the bells but as he passed Tiffany on the stairs he told her the number, allowing Tiffany to basically do nothing but give the number to the piano player and finish much faster then she should have. Ok back to Ericka. She tried SEVERAL times to count the bells and almost gave up towards the end. That wouldn't be the last time she tried to give up but luckily Brian was there to comfort her and keep her head in the game. She did finish, after two hours of counting but their struggles didn't end there.
Next up for the racers was the Detour. They had to dress in Netherlands attire, both male and female outfits, then choose which task to perform. One had them swimming across a creek in their underwear and playing a game of golf while the other had them hitting a carnival game with a mallet, dancing, then eating halibut with onions. The brothers and Meghan/Cheyne chose the golf task where the guys finished quickly while Meghan/Cheyne took a bit longer. Meghan complained that she couldn't golf but got the hang of it. The problems they did have though forced the two to drop a spot, playing them in second while the guys got first, for the first time.
Tiffany/Maria first tried the dancing but couldn't hit the little spike to the top of the tower so they switched to golf. They couldn't hit the golf ball either so they went back to the dancing. There they couldn't hit the spike again, after over 70 tries, and headed back to the golf task where Gary/Matt were finishing up their game. They landed in fourth place, just behind the Globetrotters who actually did well at the dancing task. They had a lot of fun and it allowed them to come back from last weeks almost ouster.
So that leaves us with Ericka and Brian who finally got to the Detour very behind. Them not taking the bikes to the task didn't help either and they realized half way. The entire walk Ericka complained that her feet hurt but they did well dancing and even eating the fish which put them ahead of the ladies. They waited for 30 minutes after checking in but the ladies still didn't show, so Ericka and Brian were saved after being so far behind the entire time. Sadly Tiffany and Maria couldn't finish back at the golf task and chose to quit the game. Phil walked out of nowhere to make it official. There have been times that this has happened in the past, but I don't believe anyone has officially said that they "quit". It makes sense that they would, but you never know what would have happened if they just skipped the Detour and checked in. Guess we will never know.

next week try sewing, and let's see if the Globetrotters can master that. Or, to ensure more "Quitters", require every team to dunk a basketball.
