Armistice Day is the anniversary of the symbolic end of World War I on November 11, 1918.. It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany. It is almost the 11th of November again and the gopher who set up residence in my yard and I have declared a truce (I think). Our Armistice Day is officially November 1, 2009. He moved.
I wrote an article (I'm at War) a couple of weeks ago about my on going war with this pesky destructive creature and received many replies with some good advice for getting rid of this invader. I killed one of them and wrote about it. Some of my readers felt sorry for the monster but then some people also feel sorry for the Frankenstein monster. They suggested I find a more humane way to get rid of the remaining one.
Some of the advice was to put Bazooka bubble gum in the hole so he would crew it and stop up his system and die. (This doesn’t sound too humane to me) The best advice I received was to put a fish emulsion from the garden supply store down into the hole and “stink” him out (gas bomb?) . I did the fish emulsion thing. That stuff is not cheap but I wanted this invader and trespasser gone so I sacrificed my next twenty Big Macs and bought the ammunition. It’s been almost two weeks now and I haven’t seen any signs of a new dirt mound so I’m going to assume that he took the hint and moved. Woo Hoo, victory is mine! The problem with getting him to move is that he is probably in my neighbor’s yard or pasture. Oh well, I cannot fight the world’s battles, only mine.
