I am devastated. I came home from taking my kids to a Halloween party to find out the local police and shot and killed my dog in my yard. I am crushed. My dog was my baby. He was part of the family. I loved that dog like crazy.
Neighbors said they saw the police come into my yard and then they saw my dog was loose. She said next thing she knows the cops have their guns drawn. She ran out to get my dog and was yelling for them to stop and both police officers shot my dog. He was shot twice .. and he died. She said they then took off with his body. She said before they left she asked for his collar to give me so I would have something of his and they refused and would not let her have it. The police didn't even leave a note on my door or contact me in any way at all. I would not have know what happened to my dog if they hadn't told me.
I am trying to understand how they could come onto MY property and shoot and kill MY dog. The other neighbor told me she tried to explain to them the dog was friendly and they didn't have to and she said all they told her was they thought he was going to attack them.
I think it is pathetic and 'racial profiling' of my dog. I feel they simply shot him just because he was a Pitt Bull. They killed a memeber of my family today. My kids and I are so upset. The tears just keep falling. At one point I was in the bathroom throwing up because I was so upset. My children just can't stop crying and saying "he didn't do anything to anyone".
I have been praying and asking god to explain to me why this happened and so far no answer. I just don't understand. I have had Duece for almoat 7 years now. He loved everyone. He was huge sure .. but he still thought he was a lap dog. Why did god let these evil men take my dog from us? I am so confused. I don't even want to be home. All I keep thinking is they murdered my dog in my yard. I don't even want to be near my home. I now feel unsafe police firing bullets in my yard. THANK GOD my kids weren't home.
My kids are so going to hate halloween for the rest of their lives. Everytime this holiday comes up they are going to think of this day. I know I will.
WILL PEOPLE PLEASE STOP ACTING LIKE ALL PITT BULLS ARE MEAN AND STOP BLAMING THE BREED FOR STUPID PEOPLE THAT BREED AND TRAIN SOME TO BE MEAN..... grrr
I love you Duece and I always will. You were my best friend and the love of my life. You didn't deserve this fate. I hope in heaven your being spoiled and loved because here on earth you will never be forgotten....

Have you spoke to the police about it? I would be calm when I asked as to find out something, people respond better to calm, even though you are outraged inside. How can you know it was the "real" police? Did they come in a squad car? I'd want to know more about it if I were you, why would they be entering your yard too? Sounds fishy to me.
I once had the police enter my home without my permission. The officer ran into the living room and demanded to know what was going on. I told him "I'm watching a Bette Midler film" I was laying on the couch watching the film on my vcr. He got angry like I was a smart ass. And I pointed to the tv and said, look for yourself, it's a Bette Midler movie. Then he wanted to know what was going on in the room with the closed door. I told him my husband was asleep in there. I thought the cop was nuts. I also didn't think he was allowed to just enter my home like that.
He asked me why at 2 in the morning my teenage son was eating in the kitchen with other people. I told him they all worked in a restaurant and that I just fixed them a meal as they restaurant they worked at closed at 1 am. I said, they asked my son to go to an all night diner in another town and I felt it best to feed everyone here and keep an eye on my son. I didn't like the idea of him roaming around at that time with people I didn't know well.
He said I made the right decision and left. But he never apologized for storming into my house. I always thought one of my neighbors accused me something. Just because someone is up at night like we were doesn't mean there isn't a reason for it.
I guess this is why I wonder if your dog was accused of something.
My mom said animal control came and took her dog out of her yard while she was at work. One time they said he was roaming the streets, a threat, another time they had another story, they never could get it straight. He was a 14 year old golden retreiver that never left the porch!! Because of his age and hip problems, they had to drag him basically, so when she did finally get him home he was injured and couldn't move for days.
I still can't imagine what you are facing right now, but I hope you eventually find some peace with it.
my son has the sweetest pit bull, so I know they aren't all bad...and yes it is how they are trained.

I fed my dogs early, walked them before dusk and kept them secured in my bedroom so they wouldn't be stressed from all the activity on the street tonight. I have had Police come to my house before but they just kept their hands on their Pepper Spray until I crated the dogs to let the officers in the house......they certainly never had guns drawn!

I agree with other comments. I would start by calling local news. The police department seems to respond a little more seriously with local news reporters on their tail ends than with the general public.

I would try filing a complaint with the local police first and maybe you can have a few friends or neighbors write a few letters about the dog and how friendly he was as evidence plus include a few photos of the dog with the family etc, if you file a complaint with the police department.
I found out today that an older neighbors daughter was visiting and she called the police and tried to say the dog tried to attack her and her daughter or something like that. My dog would NEVER attack anyone unless they came onto my property and tried to get in the house or do something to the property. I nmy eyes if someone came onto the property the dog would have been just in attacking ... but he has NEVER attacked anyone and even the witnesses say he DID NOT try to attack the officers.
I am trying to be as calm as possible ... I have not gone to the police yet. I am going to contact the news and an attorney as tomorrow. I haven't been able to go an hour without crying so I wasn't able to do anything today.
I'm lost without him .... they had no right to gun him down .. and even more so since he was on my property.
