I'm recovering from the swine flu and got online to see if anyone had posted their experience with the flu. All I could find where those that say they are not getting a flu shot and neither are they getting it for their children. Some are saying that it is getting too much media attention. Some say that all they have seen are mild cases of the flu.
I admit that when I got the flu, I though I was just run down. I felt unusually sleepy at first, then the body aches started in the head, back and hips [eventually everywhere], then the fever and coughing. Once the fever started I called the doctor, I was able to get in at about 36 hours after the first symptoms. I was most concerned with my breathing as it had suddenly seemed hard to breath. Doc did a flu test, it took 15 minutes to find out I had the type of flu and bronchitis. Doc ordered Tamiflu, an antibiotic, and Pro-ventolin.
The following day, I was confused, running a fever that stayed at 102, and was having more difficulty breathing. The doc call me in albuterol [my daughter has a nebulizer] and started breathing treatments every four hours. The doc called my house twice that day to check on me. Our plan was that if I were not better then I would be admitted to the hospital to administer IV antibiotics. I was feeling better … less labored breathing.
I have been confined to my room now for 4 days coming out only to get water from the kitchen. This is to try to not spread the virus to my 9 year old daughter and my husband. My husband has sprayed the house with Lysol.
I had a 24 hour period where I was really very worried. If given a choice between getting the flu shot and risking this … I would choose the shot. And while most cases have been mild, even a person with a mild case can spread the virus. That other person may not be able to battle the virus as well as someone with a stronger immune response.
I wish for all of you, good health.
Oh BTW … I’m unusually hungry. I ate potatoes chips for the first time in three months and I’m craving Ben and Jerry’s ice cream. I don’t get that?

I don't know if I asked my doctor for the shot if he would turn me down because I don't fall in the categories above.
I do hope that you are feeling better.
I WON'T get the flu shot and my family won't either. I can't be around those that had the mist in the last 48 hrs, as I have asthma. My husband is one of the rare people that get the flu from the shot....and he ends up passing it to us. Nope...not taking a chance. My daughter can't have the tamiflu as she has a bad, bad rxn....
I'm getting it because I don't want to be the one to get it myself and selfishly spread it to others. In other words its the right thing to do.
I took my daughter to the dr...we were in the office less than 15 minutes...he called it bronchitis and gave us a prescription.
My boyfriend refused to miss a day of work and refused to go to the dr...oh great Steve, you deliver bread and are coughing all over your stores and all over the bread wrappers...
his sister went to the dr, but only because she had missed 3 days of work and couldn't go back without a dr's note....they claimed it was a viral infection and nothing could be done about it but wait it out.
I think all 3 of them had swine flu with the way it's so widespread
How I've managed to not get sick, I have no clue...I've had excessive body aches and headaches this past week, but no fever, cough or anything.
the next day the soreness was my back and all across my shoulders
I have never had a flu shot in my life and I am 38.
My daughter had it & it was very mild, I was very surprised that I did not get it.
Glad you are feeling better too!
I'm coming back after I have read this over again, and read all the comments.
This is FEATURED in Dream Depths.
There seems to be a problem with people and breathing issues (Flu or no flu). It is mold, mildew, allergies, and people coughing all over the place with viruses. It is more PRONOUNCED than usual. Chemicals being sprayed are effecting the breathing of many in different regions. Those chemicals are in the air, as well as on the vegetation that people consume. WE are just becoming MORE AWARE of our BREATHING, and WE need to be MORE AWARE concerning it, because it is a "gift" that many take for granted.
I'm sorry to hear that you had to go through the pain of this flu, and I pray that you stay HEALTHY and WELL ~ including ALL of your Family Members.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from you, and also hearing about your "dreams" during this time.
HUGS ~
Your Friend,
Rene
I don't think we are going to opt to get it for Elliott or me. I've already been sick this year, although it was very mild (muscle aches, low grade fevers and a headache for 3 days). I'm also a stay at home mom and we don't go out much at all during the winter, so I don't feel like we should get it when others need it much worse than we do.
Many physicians are questioning the strange way the CDC is handling reporting, and have commented publicly that they have no way of knowing how widespread H1N1 is in the country, much less the individual states and communities.
That is why it is so unusual for the CDC to suddenly lose interest in confirming the "spread of the pandemic", unless of course, there is no pandemic.
Go figure!
I too am trying to recover from some kind of flu and strep-throat. I'm over the flu, at least my fevers are over with, YAY! I just started my antibiotics today for my strep. They didn't swab me for which flu I had.
I know whatever flu I had, it really did me in! I didn't get the bad cough though. I got a slight cough, severe muscle pain/aches especially in the neck/shoulders and hips/legs, headache, chills that caused me to shake so hard I couldn't stand it. My fevers went in five hour cycles of 101.0 to over 103.0. It lasted a little over 48 hours.
I'm still very sore and very weak. I almost passed out a couple of times. I can't walk or stand for long periods of time without becoming dizzy. I also can't hold my neck up for too long due to pain. Like right now I've got my big pillow and I'm resting it in front of me so I can prop my chin on it.
I so sympathize with you!!!
