Prompt:This week's genre is Crime/Mystery. 100 words or less and written for the following prompt.
Choose one of these scenarios:
Mrs. Bigsby cedar trunk was stolen. What was in the trunk? Who dunnit and why?
The library has been burned to the ground. Who would do such a thing and why?
A rock star's parrot was abducted. What's up with that?
Mr. Catterwall had always resented the gnarled evergreen in the corner of his neighbor's lot, right at the property line. It not only shaded his beautiful dahlias, it made them look downright shabby. Things went from bad to worse when the old tree got keithia blight and lost its remaining, scraggly foliage. Still, Mr. Catterwall's neighbor was shocked to waken one morning and find nothing but a pile of sawdust in the corner of her property. "Oh well," she thought, "good riddance, I guess."
It wasn't until Mr. Catterwall began showing off his newly paneled cedar closet that the neighbors began to suspect Mrs. Bigsby's cedar trunk had been stolen.
