Man, what a week! Those of you who followed my blog about living in a tent can rest easy now, as we moved indoors last Tuesday. We found a lovely little studio apartment that is rented by the week, so we no longer have to run across the grass to the bathroom at 3:00 AM to pee. YIPPEE!!!!!
The place we are living now is really a hotel room, which has been converted into studio apartments for seasonal worker, construction workers and those in town for weeks at a time.
I was impressed when we first went to look at it, as it has been my experience that most places which advertise weekly rates are hooker havens or roach motels. This is neither. It is clean, and very secure. We have a two burner stovetop, a full size fridge, and a microwave. The best amenity is the tub where I can soak my weary bones every night.
Well, that and the TV....and the bed...and the toilet...Ah, hell, I love it all. I was getting a little sick of the tent, ya know? As much as I love camping, it is somehow different when that is your only option. Who knew?
I won’t deceive you into thinking everything is just fine and dandy, but it’s looking up. Money is still extremely tight, and will be until I find a job, but we’re inside, and I can cook cheaply like a pro. I reluctantly admit, I’m all ready getting sick of the bean soup I made the other night, but we do what we have to do, and we are thankful, as so many have it much, much worse than we do.
We did treat ourselves to a pizza on Weds., as it was my birthday, and I told Bill I’d be damned if I was making beans for my birthday dinner, so we got a $5 Little Ceasar’s pizza. Woo Hoo. It was a nice treat though.
Luckily, there is a branch of the Columbus Library just five short miles from the hotel, which enables us to get some computer time everyt day, while using a minimum of gas in our little rattle trap car.
Thanks for reading, and keep your fingers crossed for us on our job search…there’s gotta be something out there, doesn’t there?

Connecticut's the same way, are we going to have an empty state? Both of us?
and the stores are closing one by one~
Here, we're at the other end and things are closing just too fast to keep track of - Foreclosures all over the place, to me, it's a Depression, hell, a Walmart even closed! Not that I like it there, but that was the sign to me.
They never close.
billions are spent . . . .too tired to even go there today~
I think MS is slightly less affected than the rest of the nation because our workforce is cheaper to hire....'we' just opened another car manufacturing plant in North MS.
Not to make light of anyone's misfortunes, but....if more people from other parts of the country move here in search of work, do you think they'll stay long enough to get MS off the list of 'Red' states? A friend here commented a while back that any liberals/progressives here in MS must have a really hard time because the state overall is such a Republican stronghold. And he was right...we do. All twelve of us.
Sorry, Darlin', but the humidity would kill me..Ohio's bad enough in the Summer, but Ms...Yowie!!!
Good luck with your search and I'm glad you are indoors.
Love you guys,
Marilyn
Funny how the little things in life are taken for granted until we don't have them.
I am so very glad you guys have a door now....and a thermostat!
Glad things are looking up for you two!!
Sometimes there are places you can do occational jobs at, to make some extras money, I did that until I found a job. It helps.
I knew... hoped you wouldn't be there long enough to find out.
Good on ya, finding the weekly hotel.
Keeping y'all in my thoughts.
Lol...Happy housewarming..I hadn't thought of that...where's my toaster?...
Yes I've considered them, but a temp agency will be a last resort, as I still have Unemployment Benefits which are guaranteed income, and with agencies, you might get 40 hours one week and then nothing for the next 3, so if I haven't found something by the time the UC runs out, I'll consider it, but its just too shaky a proposition to give up the steady paycheck for a "maybe" paycheck.
Hope things continue to improve.
God bless you both, and I pray you find work.
Bless you both. This is what people out in all of the states need to know.
