If I could give a piece of advice to young people, it would be simply this: Do not let anyone ever steal your joy.
Life is such a beautiful gift. There are blessings to be found at every turn.
Have you ever felt it?...that deep seated joy that just springs up from somewhere deep inside of you. You do not know exactly where it comes from, but you feel it. It is the spark of life within you.
No matter how deeply seated your joy may be, there will always be those who want to steal it from you. It isn't that they want the joy for themselves. They simply want everyone to be as miserable as they are.
These are the people who always see the glass as half empty. These are the people who will always look for the spot of dirt in an otherwise spotlessly clean room.
You will be tempted to try and "change" these people. In the process, you will find yourself falling into their negativity. You will feel your joy escaping...looking for another willing soul to fill.
Joy will not enter into the heart and soul of a negative spirit. It is a toxic environment and joy needs a receptive heart.
If you know someone who is constantly stealing your joy, do not become a victim. God wants you to be uplifted. The best thing you can do for a negative spirit is pray for that person...and leave the person in God's hands.
Never let anyone steal your joy. It is the lifeblood that flows inside of you.

Everything you have said here is what I have always felt (rather than known) since I was a kid. There are two wonderful points you make here . One , that all joy is deep within us, and never really gets exhausted. No matter how good a job we do of convincing ourselves that we are sad, miserable, depressed, it's always just a heartbeat away - it's we who lose touch with it from time to time.
The second is about the toxic people , of whom I've had more than my share. Some of them have left lasting scars on my psyche - but it was I who , in my misplaced soft-heartednes, allowed them to. It still happens, from time to time, when the person concerned is one I've been especially close to, but I have become far better at cutting away
from such people, or at least letting them know in no uncertain terms that they are abusing me and I won't take it.
It has been one of the hardest won lessons of my life - that it was I who allowed people to go on abusing me. I'm a much happier man for it - and though I have been gifted with this capacity for always staying attuned to the seed of joy, it's so much easier to prevent those scars on your soul than having to try transcend them later, isn't it!
Only today, I told a friend these very things , when he asked me the secret to my seemingly endless capacity for joy even through some terrible trauma. I told him that nothing external really can be the source of joy. We have to bring joy to every action - and then the cosmos redoubles that happiness and sends it flowing back into our hearts, isn't it!
Can you tell , from this rambling, tome-like comment, how much your thoughts today have resonated with me, Cherrypie?! :) Thank you so much for writing this! Hugs.
Reminds me of an old fashioned spiritual sound I still sing: 'I got joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart; down in my heart, today'.
JOY, is a blessing to Cheryl, always.
People seem to be threatened by the idea of bliss, trying to corral the ineffable with definitions.
How can I put words around without restricting open-ended bliss?
Have they no faith in their loving Creator?
Have I no faith in my co-creating higher Muse?
The suffering, disappointments, traumas, desolation -- these are not the gifts of deities
demanding or displeased. These are natural consequences of forces set in motion
impervious to prayer, blind to persons, unaware of our individual sad stories.
Meaningless happenstance we give greater power by attributions of guilt, blame,
bitter condemnation.
Take a little turn, I tell me, into a new truer dimension to perception.
Bliss is the source condition that surrounds us, is the essence of,
all that space in, around, between.
This is the Creator's plan, Eden's blueprint, paradise here and hereafter.
This is Christ's salvation, Buddha's enlightenment, Mohammed's dream,
Zarathustra's revelation. This is the holy secret Great Goddess whispers
in her cradling lullaby.
All of consciousness, all that life can give, is an option to open eternally
into completion as full awareness of bliss. Breathe in the healing.
Breathe out the stale pain.
Laugh in the chilling rain, yes, even as the tsunami hits, the Earth quakes,
erupting ash burns, take my hand, my word, my promise.
A universe of bliss is yours for the accepting. It costs nothing but your sins,
your misconceptions, your resistance to true unfettered life, your immortal soul.
