White Rose Publishing is offering An Uncommon Sparrow, by Janelle Ashley, as a free download. It’s a really lovely short story, only eight pages long, and perfect for reading over lunch. Home from the war, with a medal from George Washington and a limp that will never be healed, Luke longs for a woman who will accept him just as he is. Meanwhile Priscilla, dull as a sparrow compared to her bright-plumaged friend, Mercy the robin, just wishes someone would notice her. But God sees and values every sparrow, as Luke knows dearly and well. Janelle Ashley’s writing left me smiling and thinking, yes, maybe I should buy the bigger book, the story of Mercy’s romance. Meanwhile, if you go to White Rose Publishing and look for An Uncommon Sparrow you’re sure to enjoy a happy free read.

Of course, once I’d found one free read, I had to look for more. It’s Now or Never, by Wendy Davy, paints a delightful scene with candles, lasagna, the sound of the waves and the promise of a future and love. Of course Logan won’t turn her away, says Sara’s best friend Amber. And it’s clear God planned the meeting that brought them together. But soon Sara’s wondering what else God planned and why didn’t He warn her first.

A beautiful tale, sweet, light and romantic, and a lovely introduction to the author of A Matter of Trust and Drake’s Retreat.

I think I’m hooked. I’ll be back searching the White Rose site next time I have a lunch-break at the computer.
