While perusing the Tremont street area surrounding the Boston Center for the Arts' Cyclorama last night after attending one of the Girls' Night Out events, my friend and I were dismayed that we could not find a restaurant that suited our somewhat-drunk needs: cozy, comfort food, not too expensive.
Lo and behold, we found Metropolis Cafe, which I had heard about when researching my rehearsal dinner, but had never been to. We were immediately sold when we saw the blackboard sign on the front step: $30 prix fixe menu, including a glass of wine! We liked the options, so we went in.
I was a bit pessimistic about getting a table, as this place is SMALL and was crowded, but we waited about 2 minutes before being seated. Our table was a bit awkward, as we were in a corner and sitting on adjacent sides of the table, rather than across from each other, but it was fine.
Our waitress was so nice, friendly & funny and the service was great!
We both went for the prix fixe and got similar meals: we both went with the yummy carrot soup (loved the pieces of onion in it to give it some texture) and the risotto (my least favorite part of the meal, but still DELICIOUS). For dessert, she got the lemon mousse (YUM) and I splurged on the banana bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce (OH. MY. GOD. Heavenly!).
For wine, I got the house white (Fantastic! Very sweet - I think maybe a Riesling??) and she got the house red. The bread was good - not amazing - but was exactly what we wanted and came with a tasty roasted garlic olive oil.
I would definitely recommend Metropolis for a romantic night out or a fun dinner with a small group of friends.
