How Super Dumb is it That Halloween is on a Different Day in Pretty Much Every Town?

I think this is a wicked stupid practice Americans have picked up after 9/11.  Nobody is going to put Anthrax in our candy, and if they were it would not matter which night it was, because they would give us Anthrax anyway.

Who thinks its really dumb that Halloween is rarely ever celebrated on October 31st?  I can understand having a private trick or treating in a building and then going regular trick or treating or something or parties, if they don't fall on Halloween, that's no big deal, you have a party when it convenient.  What's next do we switch Thanksgiving, New Year's, Christmas, Hannukah?

Come on really, it irritates me down to the fiber of my very being.

i think a lot of the town celebrations (kids night out)s are just so the kids get to dress up more than once...i really think thats all there is to it. because everyone still goes out on the good ol 31st out here. but everytown has a lil celebration a week or so early too

Maybe, I completely do not want to pass out candy tonight, I live in NH, but I was going to celebrate Halloween with my kid at my parent's house and my dad was going to go out with my little guy and I was going to pass out candy with my mom, so I had to go out and get a bunch of candy today. OOps.

Where I live has always celebrated Halloween on Halloween. I didn't realize other towns were switching it!

We have it tonight after school for the businesses, then tomorrow night for 3 hours. No matter what night it falls on we celebrate it on that day here.

That's good. Last weekend the local businesses did it and we went for that. Yesterday the building down the street where my son is friends with a few kids, its a big apartment complex, they did trick or treat there. We are going in Boston tomorrow night, so I told him he can stay home and pass out candy this time. He doesn't need all that candy lol!

Here in Central Ohio, last night was Trick or Treat, but it will be tonight in some of the 'burbs. The reasoning for having it on Thursday, is that they refuse to have it on the weekend, when there are more traffic and drunks on the roads.

I think you are correct, sir. Parties, different matter, I grew up the next town over from Salem, MA and half my friends were Pagan so they celebrated the Winter Solstice for like three weeks lol, but October 31st was like the super grand finale.

They always do Trick or Treating here on the actual day no matter what day of the week it is. I am glad it is on a Saturday this year.

Me too. I'm going to my mum's where trick or treat is on the actual night. I just think this is confusing. So far, I have talked to about three different people who live on my street that had no idea it was today.

Here it is on the normal day....
Back in the 70's there was that huge scare of tainted candy, but I just heard lately that it was family members who was doing it to there own kids, or families kids..... wished we new that back then!!
I guess different days would irritate the die hard Halloween people? Then again, which day do you expect the kids??

Yeah, its not even strangers, its 99.9% of the time a family member, even more disturbing. The only instance of stranger poisoning I have ever heard of was with the cyanide capsules back when I was little, they were in Tylenol capsules that could be pulled apart and put back on the shelf.

Some people celebrate parties on different nights because the parents will then be able to take their children trick or treating on the actual Halloween night.

the different nights thing has nothing to do with 9/11.. this is a practice that has been going on for as long as I can remember and I do agee that is a little idodic.

Our township had trick-or-treating last night, why? because friday is highschool football night and saturday is college ball night and by golly no one interferes with football. dumb? you bet.

That is when it started to change in NH, because the suicide bombers were in our airport, same with Maine, and then the paranoia spread to Massachusetts and so on.

I never heard of Halloween being celebrated on any day other than October 31. Lots of stores and restaurnats go for it throughout October, but that's just a commercial thing!

There have been/will be several different things going on here on different days but we are only taking the kids out tomorrow night. We're going trick or treating with some of our friends and their kiddos and then back to my BFFS house to let the kids wear each other out from their sugar highs!

Some areas are doing it on a different night so it doesn't coincide with church or religious meetings. My area they always have it on 10/31 no matter what. Always between 5 and 7 pm. We have a curfew. The only folks who break the curfew are a few teens. The cops circle our neighborhood through the whole thing. I wish they would circle during Mischief Night (tonight) as that is the night that they TP the property and throw eggs. Last year we had eggs on our house and TP on our front tree. A pain to clean.

Our community has been celebrating Halloween since last Saturday, October 24th with different activities everyday and a final celebration on Sat. Oct 31st.

I didn't realize that the practice had proliferated the country. It's still on Halloween here and everywhere I have ever lived. I was surprised when I read Sandra H.'s post that their town celebrates on the last Thursday of the month. Weird.

That is pretty lame. If someone wants to give Americans anthrax, we're pretty much screwed no matter when we celebrate our holidays (and that's assuming this terrorist person gets past the, let's see, CIA, FBI, DIA and the NSA). So people need to chill out and just celebrate the holiday like everybody else!

As far back as the 60's, people were putting razor blades and drugs into Halloween candy.

Some communities offer a Halloween party or parade for kids, but here in Michigan, trick or treating is still done on Halloween. Thanks for posting to All About Autumn

I would actually like Trick or Treat to be the last Saturday of the October. It's very difficult for parents to get home from work in time for Trick or Treat to start.
