As many of you know, we are a 1 income family. The original decision was based on the needs of our family, and money. Because of where we lived, and because I had not attended college, my job prospects were minimum wage. The town was small, and day care costs were high. Instead of working just to pay for day care, we scrimped and I stayed home with the kids.
There have been times where we were doing great. There were times when money wasn't just tight, it was a size 12 squeezing into a pair of size 2 jeans. We went through a lot, and it taught me to value every dollar we have. It also taught me to be creative with our budget, to get the most out of it, whether it meant on groceries, or on holidays, or just to have enough set aside to try and do something fun together.
Recently, I made the decision to start a blog. It was going to be a family photo album, but I started posting recipes, tips, ideas, and more to the site, so it has evolved past being a family photo album to being "My Frugal Family", a website dedicated to posting ways to save money. Not just saving money on your every day things, but making a budget really stretch to allow gift giving to be easier, to allow for some decorating, or craft ideas, and more.
Here are some of my more recent links. Some of these are reposts of things I have posted in the past here on Gather, and some are things that pop into my head, and get posted there as soon as I start looking at them.
How To Make a Fleece Scarf & Hat
How To Make Non-Food Gifts In A Jar
Decorating For Christmas On A Budget
Frugal Halloween Treat Containers
I hope that this blog will help other families find unique ways to make their budgets stretch further, as well as giving people fun & creative ideas for homemade gifts and crafts.
Stop by to visit, and if you know someone who would be interested in the blog, feel free to share it with them! People are turning towards homemade items now, more than ever, with the rising cost of living, the shrinking value of the dollar, and the jobs that are evaporating right out from under them.
I hope to see some of you on the blog!
