"We, the people of the United State, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
The preamble states the goals of our constitution. You would think all elected “leaders” would support those same goals, even though they were established two point two centuries ago. That is why I don’t understand how anyone with a conscience and common sense opposes what is commonly called a single payer health care system.
I don’t mean to say I am not painfully aware of the pat answers from the vocal opposition and the resentment small spiteful people have of “their” money going to help lazy dead beats. I also don’t understand those that say it is very complicated. A house burns down with only three walls left standing, it would be complicated to return it to it’s former condition. However, that isn’t what one would do. You knock it all down, put it in a dumpster and haul it off. Then build a new house.
The funding for healthcare should be simple and straightforward. The current portion of the payroll tax for healthcare is 2.9%. 1.45% is deducted from the employee’s pay and an additional 1.45% is paid by the employer. Up the 2.9% to 4.9% with the option to raise it to 6.9% depending on the ultimate cost. This is a tax on earned income. There should also be a tax of an half percent tax on all passive income. That way everyone that is making any money is paying in to the healthcare fund. Also, this fund could be used for nothing else.
No U.S. citizen should be allowed to purchase private health insurance. Not supplemental, not squat. The citizen should be fined and the head of the corporation attempting to sell said insurance should be jailed. The providers and drug companies negotiating with the U.S. citizen’s representative on prices should have as little leverage as possible. Of course, the rates paid doctors should be enough so that they can afford to spend more than five or ten minutes with a patient.
Medical schools should be required to increase the number of doctors they graduate by 100% over the next 10 years. We all know that keeping the supply down increases the demand. That is the game they have played for the last hundred years. We’re talking life and death here. This game should end now. Also, the absurd start up cost of a doctor going into private practice should be subsidized by the Federal government. Too, there should be an incentive for universities to get back into medical research.
This would raise taxes. It would be a flat tax. But a Trillion dollars in insurance premiums would be eliminated. No more state taxes would be required for healthcare. No more federal income taxes would be required for healthcare. No more businesses would be required to provide healthcare. No more pension funds would be required to provide healthcare. And no more people would be dying because of the lack of healthcare. But we as a Nation would establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.
Thank you for your time.

been pushing for...
a public option that will destroy private
choice;
the unconstitutional individual mandate;
the punitive employer mandate; draconian cuts in Medicare;
and massive tax increases.
Repression is what American's and only American's know as long as for profit entities control if they live or die.
Why dont they just come get all us seniors and throw us in a bone pile to die.
I dont have a clue if all this legislation sitting on the floor of congress and Senated is doing any of us good right now.
I go on Medicare next year and a lot of doctors in this area are dropping Medicare patients as they say they do not get reimbursed adequately. A friend has had the same doctor for over 20 yrs. Reg has excellent insurance via his former job but the doctor's group has decided they won't accept it any more so after Dec 31st, he doesn't have a doctor any more.
I'd be glad to see your plan implemented but have little hope that anything effective will be worked out.
