Halloween Candy is Full of the Devil

In an article on the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) web site, writer Kimberley Daniels warns her readers to steer clear of Halloween candy.

She says that “…most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches. I do not buy candy during the Halloween season. Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference.”

One more quote. “Halloween is much more than a holiday filled with fun and tricks or treats. It is a time for the gathering of evil…”

I am not making this up. There are people who really believe this kind of stuff.

I am sure most Christians are able to dismiss this kind of superstitious fear mongering, and just enjoy handing out trick-or-treats and laughing at the kids’ costumes.

But there are lunatics are out there, and they are scarier by far than the imaginary goblins and ghosts. I am sure that, if they had their way, Halloween would be abolished, along with the teaching of evolution in school science classes.

Biology would become Bible study.

Science would morph into the study of Scripture.

Let us hope that such people never get any political power.

I believe in the Samhaim, the old Celtic Irish roots of the summers end and the All Saint's Day version of Halloween. The dark colors represent the harvest and Auntumn. The veil is thought to be thinner on this night and it is a celebration of lost loved ones and the harvest.

Witches praying over candy & cursing it???? Someone has had too much spiked cider.

I am a Christian and I think all this stuff being said about candy and evil is ridiculous. The only evil thing about candy is that it can make you fat.

I was emailed insane anti-halloween devil worshiping nonsense by a co-worker, and when I told her in person that I thought all the anti-Halloween stories were silly, and didn't want to receive emails about it she proceeded to try to deliver me a lecture. I had to exit the conversation. She was seriously concerned for my soul.

Dia de la Muerta is the Mexican holiday, it lasts 3 days,
October 31st (Young Souls Day), November 1st (All Saints Day) and November 2nd (All Souls Day).

Funny thing, all this anti-Halloween stuff is only about 20 years old.

The fundamentalist "stuff" is what you are talking about. They will prohibit the teaching of evolution if they can...and replace it with Bible school.
Any thinking person has to be concerned by that.

Cena - Kids were trick or treating at least since I was a kid 75 years ago. Even rumors of tainted candy and needles hidden in candy goes back at least to the 50s. But maybe the 20 years you speak of is when everyday evilness began to be so open. Seems like anything goes these days if you don't get caught. I think there are a lot more people without morals than there used to be who might get a charge from hurting children or anyone else. The world seems more dangerous now, for children expecially.

Bert - It seems that every Halloween produces new things for parents to worry about. I'm just superstitious enough to think someone might try incantations, with maybe some really bad additives for good measure. Maybe we should buy our handouts from Sees, or give some other kind of treat not to be taken internally.

I am just worried about the people who warn us about the "evils" of Halloween. Could they be the ones who might spike Halloween candy with poison to try to blame those "evil" powers?
I would not put it past them. They have demonstrated their willingness to promote their beliefs regardless of whom they injure in the process.
For fundamentalists, the end justifies the means...just as it did for Lenin and Stalin and Hitler.

Seems like anything is possible these days. People holding positions of trust tell blatant lies. It reminds me of the Smothers brothers when one would tell the other something outlandish, and when it was not accepted, he'd say, "Well would you believe.....". The sad part is that a lot of people believe every lie told to them if it is something they want to believe.

Oh, that is very true, Ruth. I get stuff every day from people who, if they spent a minute or two checking, would KNOW that the thing they posted was absolute garbage.
But they post it, and never check its authenticity. Why? Because it supports their personal prejudices about Obama...or Democrats...or Liberals.
When I confront them with evidence that their post is not just fiction, but malicious, libelous and completely false, they just shrug.

Yeah, you're right, Gary. In some areas, they have gained power. I was thinking nationally...like President Huckabee. That would be really scary. I have actually thought about what I would do if the Religious Right gets control of our government and turns the nation into a theocracy.
Where would I go?
My list has two names so far...South Africa and New Zealand.

President Huckabee was a scary thought last year. Surely the American people are not so stupid as to elect him president. He's one of those glib, clever, but ignorant and ultimately unintelligent types. We had a (slightly) more mainstream version of him in Saint Reagan. But at least Reagan was a cynical user of religion - I don't think he really believed that crap the way Huckabee clearly does.

I think the kingmakers of the Republican Party are too smart to run Huckabee. They know that a lot of moderate Republicans would be uncomfortable with him...and I doubt if he would get a single Democratic vote.
They will look for someone who can "sugar coat" their agenda. Like Romney.

That would probably be my choice too. South Africa is really nice...good climate, beautiful country...they are having some economic problems though.
New Zealand has the advantage of being much less dependent economically on the import/export interrelated economies of most northern hemisphere countries.
