Do you lie about reading books?

Two-thirds of Brits have lied about reading books they haven’t. Have you? Why? What book?

Sadly, or maybe not so sadly, there is not much to confess here. I have never made up a lie about reading books. Not that I am a person who abhors this kind of behavior. I don't. It has simply never occurred to me to say that I read a certain book when in reality I haven't and probably never will.

I read books for myself only. There is no other motive than love of reading what I want to read and not what others might think I should read. The days of school assignments are over for me. And even then, I read all the books on the required reading list. Yep, I was that nerdy.

It seems to me that lying about reading books would be like cheating at Solitaire ! If I were going to lie about reading a book ,it would certainly have to be " War and Peace " ! I just can't finish reading that damn book ,even though it's not that bad of a read ! Now , you brought up the required reading lists !! I suppose I have lied about reading books ,because I would buy a cheater short version of some of those reads to try to pass the tests .It very seldom worked ,BTW ! I am trying to atone for my sins by going back and reading some of those assigned reads I missed !

Why would anyone do such a thing??
A lie takes another lie to cover the first lie then another lie to cover that lie - who has the memory for that lol!!
Not I lol!
I hated being required to read anything when young!! Once something is in the brain, it is always there, ready to pop it's head up - ugly head or not!!

I work with students and it appears to be a game they enjoy playing. they may research it on the net and give me a summary of a summary of someones review! College level---Amazing!
