I had a birthday yesterday, and Penny, my oldest grandchild and her husband Ralph, made it special for me about sundown. They cooked up a meal the likes of which I haven’t had for years. She served all the shrimp we could eat dipped in delicious seafood sauce, and two-inch filet mignon steaks cooked just the way we like it. I like mine almost burned on the outside and almost raw in the middle. It was done way before any others so I started eating first while it was hot. We had perfectly baked potatoes with sour cream and butter, a Caesar salad, and both brownies and a heart shaped birthday cake for dessert. I was glad she did not put 87 candles on the cake and burn the house down.
As if that were not enough, Jane gave me a beautiful new nightgown in a lovely shade of lavender in the style I like best. Penny gave me a huge bouquet of roses in a shade somewhere between pink and tangerine. The roses have opened up this morning, and brighten my whole bedroom as I sit here and write about them on my computer.
With such a sumptuous celebration, I may stick around for another one next year.
