Tennis great Andre Agassi’s autobiography, “Open: An Autobiography”, will hit stores next month and contain confessions of illicit drug use, fake hair, and other bombshells.
According to excerpts obtained by Sports Illustrated, Agassi began taking crystal meth in 1997 after sinking in the ATP rankings. He lied to ATP officials after failing a drug test and was able to avoid suspension and public disclosure of the failed test.
Agassi also admits the trademark Mohawk-mullet he sported in the 80s and early 90s was a weave. He didn’t just grow that monstrosity, he actually purchased it.
The tennis star ditched the mulle-toupe (and shaved what was left of his hair), kicked his meth habit, and quickly vaulted to No. 6 in the world in one of the best comebacks in sports history.
Depite his checkered past and these new revelations, Agassi has been known (especially in recent years) as one of the good guys in sports. He has even started a prestigious educational institution, The Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (agassiprep.org), despite the fact that he never made it out of 9th grade.
I think the book is going to be a really interesting and apparently pretty blunt and honest look at a very intriguing character in the world sports scene. Look for it to come out soon!
