Obamas set example concerning flu shots

All four members of the Obama faimly have received the seasonal flu shot.

The two daughters received the H1N1 shot today after it became available to school-age children. The President and First Lady will get the H1N1 after high risk groups are vaccinated.

I believe it foolish not to get the shots. Typically there are 30,000 deaths and many hospitalization annually. This year may be worse.

That's as bad as Bush when he took his water shot and claimed it was for anthrax so he could force it on the military.

I think the criticism will shift to how they're tools of the vaccine conspiracy instead of how foolish they were not to exploit their status and get immunized.

There were already people here on gather last week complaining that the first daughters did not get the shots. Now they will complain because they did. Just wait -- they will say the shots should have gone to others more needy!

Dr. Nancy Snyderman today reminded viewers that vaccines save lives, period. Unfortunately the message about the importance of the vaccine has gotten hijacked by naysayers, she said. Please don't politicize this for goodness sakes.

I believe in getting the influenza vaccine. After all I am diabetic and have gotten it over the past few years (missed last year) and didn't get sick. Now the other one, I'm not too sure about.
I caved and got the kid vaccinated~ though it took a lot of reading and research before I decided to do so~ I won't be getting one~

There is going to be a serious run on rubber sheets as the bed wetters (NO offence) rush to proclaim that it is an OUTRAGE, a LIE, a trick, a ruse. Tough to have to make a medical decision on a Political ideology...........and VERY foolish!
I am still trying to figure out JUST why they are so paranoid about everything......if they do get sick, don't they have the 'BEST Health Care in the WORLD'? If they get sick and die, don't they have a Loving God waiting to welcome them home? Ya know, ya just can't please some people!

Thanks for sharing this! I LOVE that it flies in the face of some of the moronic, conspiracy articles being posted here on Gather with more than HIGHLY dubious "sources". This post is actually based on reason...what a concept!

In Columbus, they are still vaccinating pregnant women and health care workers who work directly with those who have the flu. Other health care workers and even children with pre-existing conditions such as asthma (a 14-year-old otherwise healthy boy with asthma died here of H1N1 a couple of weeks ago) are in priority group #2, and there is no vaccine for them yet. School-age children and school employees are in group #3. I'm not sure when they'll get to 63-year-old cancer survivors, but when they do I plan to be immunized. Seems to me that healthy middle-aged people would be an even lower priority than that.

I tried multiple locations in Austin to see if a seasonal flu shot was available, but none of the places I called had any.

I'm glad to see the President leading by example!

I have done the same, anyone with sense should, just to not infect others
