When world-renowned banjoist Béla Fleck (winner of 11 Grammys and nominated in more categories than any other musician in Grammy history) realized that his instrument had lost its musical heritage, he decided to make a pilgrimage to Africa to rediscover the banjo’s folk music roots.

Overflowing with the incredible music of Fleck and the many celebrated folk musicians who hosted him in Africa, BÉLA FLECK: THROW DOWN YOUR HEART follows the banjo virtuoso on a musical adventure that takes him from Uganda to Tanzania and from the Gambia to Mali. As he travels through the continent to research the history of the banjo and record an album with some of Africa’s finest musicians—and, in his words, “to make great music”—Fleck discovers the rich and diverse musical traditions of Africa, as well as the warmth and generosity of its people.

Gather is giving away three music prizes, which includes two DVDs and one soundtrack, signed by Béla Fleck. I'd like to visit Norway and learn about their culture and musical heritage. My great grandmother's and great grandfather's families both came from Norway, so I did learn a little growing up. Norway has some musical instruments that cannot be found anywhere else, like the bukkehorn and the lur.

Since I have Irish roots, Ireland would be an obvious choice, but I would also like to visit Ethiopia because my sister was there in the Peace Corps. However, I would also like to learn about the musical roots of Native Americans, especially the Cherokees, since I am part Cherokee.

I've always wanted to visit Australia. The unusual animals are fascinating to me. I'd also love to go there to learn about the didgeridoo and other indigenous music. The didgeridoo has an almost hypnotic quality, and I'd love to learn how to play it.
