During the first week I was in Perth, Mag took me to King's Park. But the visit was cut short two hours after we arrived when the skies opened up and Mag and I realized sloshing around in the mud is not the best way to see the spring wildflowers in the Park. Two weeks later we returned on a sunny day and toured the whole Park. Being a Saturday, the Park was offering a variety of "special" activities.
From King's Park, you can look down on the beautiful city of Perth. It's a beautiful sight during the day but at night standing on the hill is truly magical. Mag did bring me to the Park one night just to see the "lights of Perth" and I was completely amazed by all the families laying on blankets in the dark having their evening meal. (We took no pictures at night...in order to do it justice, you would need a tripod.)

We parked the car on the main drag going into the park and walked the rim of the hill stopping at the various memorials along the way.

The first Memorial is to the Australians who fought in the Boer War.

Then one comes to the grand old lady, Queen Victoria.

Queen Victoria looks east towards the hills, Perth below her.

As one continues on the path, "the city of lights" is always in your view.

South Perth is connected to Perth City by the Narrows Bridge.

As one walks along the path, one is overwhelmed with all the beautiful wildflowers.

By the Cafe, is the Flower Clock.

One of my favorite wildflowers are the kangaroo paws.

Mag's favorite is the the boronia.

At the Aboriginal Center there is a lookout.

Underneath is an art musuem of aboriginal art as well as a gift shop.

In another area of King's Park is "a Dreaming area".

If one looks beyond the "dreaming area". one sees the high suspension walkway.

Leaving the "Walkway", we headed over to the Women's Watergarden and Pool.

Then we headed up the trail to the Pioneer's Woman Fountain

Walking up the grassy hill from the fountain, a "Wildflower Show" was entertaining the young people. Actors dressed as wildflowers, bumblebees and caterpillars introduced important "life cycle concepts" in a playful way.

Before leaving the Park that day we paid a visit to the various tents offering brochures, souvenirs, and wildflower plants.

I bought my two books on the wildflowers of Western Austria at one of these booths. Both books have been most helpful this spring as I have hiked the "bush".

And so that was our day at King's Park.

Stay tuned, friends one and all.
i have seen more of Oz than I did in my week in Brisbane...more than I could have seen except by being in Oz for two months....
Great photo essays, this and all of them.
I bow to you.
She is now on the jet winging the long way home.
Thank you very much - your insightful words are a great comfort to me.
So the visit comes to an end, eh? You guys have certainly given us much food for thought and for the eyes. Many thanks!
And thank you very much.
I agree with Caro... wonderful photo essay, and like her, I am emotional with gratitude for the many photos you and Magi shared with us during this special visit. The prospect of more photos to come keeps me eager for your future articles.
Safe journey back, Bob. I know it will be another gruelling flight but hang in there, I know your family and friends in Boston will spread the welcome mat for the travelling dynamo!
I think a new Magi is emerging now from the old ashes.
I think that we are both changed people.
Great final photo essay. I would have liked to see the night lights. Maybe you picked up a postcard that you can scan in for us for a later viewing?
All in all, it sounds like you've had a most wonderful time; both of you!
When I get a tripod and some time, I might go to Kings Park for some night shots.
Yes, we did have a wonderful time.
And hopefully Magi will be coming to the USA in the near future so that we can show him a few sights as well.
Featured in Celebration of Collaboration and Inspiration!
Thank you very much for the honour of featuring this.
Great pictures, interesting flowers, fun scenes and just plain fun as always.
Thanks so much for sharing with my group.
It's so wonderful that you have also cemented your friendship and I know you will both treasure the memories.
