Is it THAT time again??? Well BEFORE HALLOWEEN and THANKSGIVING day??
WHO has such a large list that they have to spend OVER ,90 days shopping????
Would Jesus have such a list??? Only if he changed his mind about how the money lenders had corrupted the Sabbath.
Last Friday, I was part of a discussion that somehow turned to the xmas holiday shopping. I admit, that I am done shopping.
What I would love is we should have The END OF XMAS SHOPPING!!!
What would Jesus buy?? Would he like how tacky this season has gotten with the plastic manger scenes?
Would he want the Last supper dining set,. Silver cutlery, bone china, and crystal glasses and thee finest linen napkins, along with the bone china serving plates for each course???
Would Jesus like seeing us make such a COMMERCIAL holiday out of it??
Would Jesus buy sweaters for his disciples???? What about MP3 players so his word could be heard around the clock????
Will he condemn the person who made that AWFUL barking dog song to the tune of "jingle bells"???? ( I hope so)
I wonder if Satan has a special room for that guy, so he can hear that song 24/7 amplified like a punk rock concert!!! Woof woof!
This season is for the retailers only. Buy, buy, and buy more stuff that you can not afford. Pay next year,, buy out the store.
Go JC Penny, Go Wal mart with profits galore. Go and sell more and more.
This holiday season has become a financial whore.
Spend until your broke, and then spend some more.
Put it on charge cards, and spend even more.
Would Jesus give Mary Magdalen a new coat, or the latest cologne from jean nate'????????
Would Jesus buy a flame proof suit for Judas Iscariot, or a bbq pit??
Would Jesus want 10% off or 33% off?
Would Jesus wait till next year to START paying for stuff we buy 90 days before the most known anniversary of his birth???
Would Jesus approve the ripping off of the pagan holiday of Saturnalia, where wreaths of holly adorned the doors, pine trees are adorned with lights and ornaments?
What saddens me is this seems a way to buy love. You do not need to get to know your relatives, just get them something that will keep them shut up for another year.
What has your sister or brother gone through this past year?? Are they in good health?? DO they still have a job?? Are their kids doing well in school??
What do you care, you will just buy them something so that you will not have to know, and avoid showing signs that you really do not care.
What do you care, you will just buy them something so that you will not have to know, and avoid showing signs that you really do not care.
For that is what this season has become.
No more a religious holiday spent in reflection and prayer, but in glorifying the all mighty dollar and what it can buy.
What would Jesus think if he was here today?? I believe that he would help someone that needed help.
What would Jesus buy for you?

My family and I (the adults anyway) will sometimes do a year or a few where we agree not to buy each other anything, and as long as there's a Christmas card or day-of phone call, no one feels like Christmas is any less special. Other ideas for taking the consumerism out of the holiday is to agree with several people not to spend more than $5 or $20. Often those gifts are the best because they are the most creative and in sync with what you need (I got dashboard cleaner and car air freshner from one person and absolutely loved it). Another is to donate to good causes and then buy something super small that symbolizes the donation (example, donate good money to cancer research and then buy someone a stationary set or single Christmas card from MD Anderson Cancer Center that has a drawing on it from a child patient).
I now that Jesus liked to eat, so "celebrating" by the "breaking of bread is kool.
I had to unwrap underwear and socks, and other clothes and make like I was grateful for what should have been provided anyway.
One year, when there was a visitor, I put a pair of my "tidy whities jockey's on my head, and a pair of socks on my hands, thanking my parents for the great winter hat and gloves. That ended them from doing that again.
but you are right, Christmas is way to commercialized
I do admit that I was just sitting here thinking about what gifts I am going to have for my children and grandchildren to go with the quilts I am making.
Anyway, a lot of my cards are framed and hanging on walls in the homes of my brothers and sisters. Some for as long as 38 yrs. now. No one still has any presents that I "bought" for them even 5 years ago, let alone for 38 yrs.

There are just a few things that I keep that are older than 5 years,
