Amazingly a precedent has been established in the UK to tax Mormon Temples because they do not serve the purpose of providing a place for public worship. In a carefully worded decision British authorities denied tax exemption in 2008. The author suggests that local tax assessors look to the argument made in the UK in order to recover tax in the US and else where.

Hmmm. So the argument is that the general public and Mormons who do not tithe are not allowed in the Temple? And that it's, therefore, not a place for public worship? Interesting. Aren't there other religions who have similar practices? Would they be deemed not tax exempt as well?

I don't know if any similar requirement for religious exemption from taxes exists in the U.S. so it may be a moot point as far as I can tell.

The writer states, "The only benefit gained of Mormon Temples is gained by the church (money). The temple ceremonies in no way substitute for any public good that might otherwise be provided by government"

All churches have outreach programs that do benefit the public, non believers as well as non tithers.

I disagree with the article. But it was interesting.

Utah, home of the Mormon Church, has the lowest rate of welfare and homelessness in the United States.

Mormonism is a crackpot cult, probably closest the radical Islam. The church of Mormon opposed the civil rights act in the 60's because they actually thought God mandated that blacks were not equal to whites. They wanted to ship the blacks off the Africa. Not only should they be taxed but they ought to be investigated and kept track of like the Nazis or KKK.
