I took my 4 year old son to the doctor yesterday expecting that he would get diagnosed with bronchitis. I even made a post about my initial fear that he had the flu, and the school secretary telling me bronchitis was going around. Well I was wrong. He was diagnosed with the flu. The doctor didn’t say swine flu, but he was vaccinated for the regular flu so it shouldn’t be that.
The doctor gave him a prescription for tamiflu and we took it to the pharmacy to fill it. They are all out. The pharmacist called other area pharmacies. The closest place was 30 minutes away. We went and they were sold out by the time we got there.
I’m sorry, but what the hell????? We didn’t know this was coming since this summer. The vaccine wasn’t available here before two weeks ago, and they sold as soon as they got it, and that would have been just the first dose and ineffective until a second was received (at least for his age group). They are having a shot clinic by me tomorrow, lot of good that will do.
On top of that, the tamiflu prescription, we were told, only works if it’s taken within the first 72 hours of contracting the illness. Yesterday was the day for him to take it. But no one has it. My son is 4; one of the highest risk groups for the flu. This is ridiculous!!!
I’m so annoyed. But I’m not going to get crayz/ stressed out about this flu. I could drive myself crazy with worry if I let my fears get the best of me. My son is playing with blocks, watching tv, and I’m giving him popsicles all day long. Whatever fluid he wants, he gets. As much of it as I can get down. He never wants to drink anything.
I'm saying this prayer throughout the day. "Heavenly Father, thank you for healing Cadden. THank you for blessing him with good health. Thank you for your blessing of health on all of our family. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen" - please say that prayer for us.
Another thing that really bothers me is the number of kids walking the school hallways on friday that had the same awful sounding cough, runny nose, and pale face. Grrrrr! Don't mistake this for a bad cold. It looks a lot like it.
H1n1 is a national emergency now. As of today.

I hope the little guy feels better soon....and hopefully he won't get hit too hard with it. Seems like the H1N1 hits the 20somethings the hardest.
As far as the tamiflu goes, I wouldn't mind having some for my 8 year old, jst in case he gets it. He always has difficulty breathing at the peak of his chest colds. We have a new inhaler from his last cold. I worry most about him.
Living in Canada my first thought was Yea for Canada not cow-towing to the Big Strong US for the first time in history. It gave me a sense of security that turned out not to be true. We have shortages too. I got my shot a couple weeks ago and this week it was opened to everyone. In our nearest big city the H1N1 is now declining. I hope those vaccine companies are still making it because I believe its not even close to being over yet. I really hope I'm wrong.
