It all started with a staff meeting. Those who know me know I have trouble sitting still, so I make these intricate doodles to keep myself from squirming. This is just one. First, I drew it on graph paper with a pen, then I scanned it.
I scanned it first in color, then realized that was going to create a lot of work, since it brought the blue lines from the graph paper with it.

Then I scanned it as a black and white, after adjusting the halftone setting to have lots of contrast. This caused me a few issues later, because that "B&W" label made it hard to add colors later.

I wasn't happy with the fuzziness of the edges, so I transferred it over to Adobe Illustrator and proceeded to redraw it using circles and straight lines over top the original. This makes a nice, clean drawing. I had a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to do that wavy line. It's amazing how easy it is to draw and hard it is to do something like that on the computer! This is the black and white result. (It shows up here as a little fuzzy because I had to turn it into a .png file. Not sure why.)

Then I argued with Illustrator for a while until I figured out how to make it fill in things with color.

Then I started embellishing it with colored circles. What do you think of the end result?

Print it out on some cardstock and use it as your Christmas cards this year? Or print it out small and use it for tags on presents?
:o)
I also think "doodle" is not a big/strong/all-encompassing enough word for what you drew to begin with.
