I was wondering what some of you might think about Cremation...our family is having a 'Celebration of Life,' at the beach Saturday for a family member who died of terminal cancer not to long ago. He was in Hospice for sometime, and at first he was going to have a burial, but his wife had second thoughts, and decided to have him cremated if only for one reason...he loved the beach, so he will be put out to sea by her and the daughter...then we will celebrate his life with a barbecue and laughter, tears, and pictures.
In the very near future I think we might all end up as dust, due to the limited space in the thousands apon thousands of cemetaries. I, personally, do not have a problem becoming dust. I will be dead, and my spirit will go elsewhere, so why should any of us care how we leave this earth, or go back into it? My mother ashes are in a beautiful ginger jar next to many momentos of her. It really bothered her that she was gong to be buried. It seemed so lonely to her, and she was afraid that the casket might get a hole in it, and she would have bugs crawling on her...lol.
For the most, people that I have spoken with want to be cremated. They like the idea of their remains being spread out onto a lake, a beach, or a special spot that they had fond memories of.
I kind of like the idea of my ashes being put in a flower garden...ya know...'bone meal' for the earth worms.
What are your opinions on this subject? Just curious.

As you said why take up anymore room? Leave that for the living. A body is only flesh, and faulty, breakable at that.
Sorry to hear of your family member!
On the issue of concrete vaults, they do not stay sealed, and water is always found within them after a period, anyway.
The plus on cremation is the drastically-reduced cost.
No matter what anyone does, our remains will come into contact with things no one would want contact with, I'm sure, and I doubt any of us will know the difference.
