Does this make sense to anyone else?

Kinston, North Carolina has 23,000 people, two-thirds of whom are African American. Last year, by a nearly 2 to 1 majority, voters decided that municipal elections should be non partisan. The ballot initiative passed in 7 of the city’s 9 black-majority precincts. However, the Justice Department has ruled that “white voters in Kinston will vote for blacks only if they are Democrats and that therefore the city cannot get rid of party affiliations for local elections because that would violate black voters' right to elect the candidates they want”.

It makes sense to polititions who are getting all the money. Most of the decisions that polititions make do not make sense to a normal person. However, polititions are not normal.

I happen to think Kinston has a good idea and all elections for city positions should be non partasan. It is true that the people usually know the candidate in a small town personally. Just having an open election where you can vote for the candidate and not the party might do the job just as well. I agree with the man who thinks town council positions should be decided by district or ward so the entire city is represented.
