Last year, an acquaintance gave me some bulbs from where they were thinning out their flower bed. Â I have an area that used to have two large bushes that I was trying to find plants for, so I took lots. Â With the summer being so hot, the plants did okay, but not great. Â However now I'm enjoying lots of beautiful white butterfly ginger lilies!

They were one of the first gingers recognized to be cold hardy, and do well here in the south. Â I've discovered that they need lots of water, which may be another reason they didn't do that well here over the summer.
Their smell is amazing (very similar to jasmine), and they attract butterflies. Â I'm hoping many more will come back next year and start filling that area in!
