Halloween/Harvest Party Idea #3 for Room Mothers: Make a Monster Puppet
Supplies:
Construction paper
Scissors- the teacher already has these for the class
Glue or paste
Flexible drinking straws
Stapler (mom’s staple the handles on for the kids)
Long rubber bands, cut open
** Make a puppet monster or two at home to show them as an example so the children can see some ideas of how it could look.
Puppet:
- Body: one sheet of 8x11 construction paper
- Limbs: strips of construction paper that can be folded like accordions, cut out like bumpy robot arms, or circles of paper cut in a swirl to create curly tentacle arms, or curvy strips to look like robot arms.
- Feet/ Hands and Faces: odd and end pieces of paper the kids can cut to any shape
- Tails/antennas/feelers/ fangs: Make your own and put them on a table for the kids to pick. Cut the coolest shaped pieces that you can think of to accent their little monsters.
Constructing the puppet handle:
Cut the rubber band so it’s a long string, staple it to the straw and, once the monster is created, staple the rubber band to the top of the monster body. When the handle is raised and lowered, the rubber band makes it spring up and down.
