Halloween/ Harvest Party Idea #2 for Room Mothers: Animals want treats too!
Give your little students the opportunity to feed the birds or squirrels in their yard, because animals are harvesting now as well as people.
Step 1: Make and decorate a container for the seeds.
Some options for the containers are:
- Baby food jars, sterilized. Cut out cardstock or construction paper circles the same side as the lid, decorate with rubber stamps or stickers, and tie ribbon or raffia around jar, below lid.
- Halloween patterned treat bags- they are decorated for you- not much work there
- Paper bags- decorated with markers, stickers, traced patters with cookie cutters, etc…
- Envelopes- (think seed packets for animals) decorated.
Step 2 : Fill your containers with food.
Squirrel/ Bird Food: Use any or all choices, collecting what you can from outside
Bird seed
Acorns
Corn kernels
Peanuts- shelled or unshelled
Hickory nuts
Put seeds/nuts in plastic containers with serving spoons or measuring scoops from your kitchen.
Let children fill the seed containers. They liked this as much as decorating their container.
