DO YOUR KIDS BOOK IT?

Here in OH, our schools participate in Book IT.

I am just curious if schools in other areas also participate in Book It or something similar.

I will explain what Book It is here and then everyone will know. Starting in October the elementary school sends home a sheet for each child to keep track of the books they read for the month. My 2nd grader is required to read ten books a month and we have to write the Title and the Author down on the sheet. Once he gets to ten, he takes the sheet back in and he receives the sheet for next month (November) along with a coupon for a free personal pan pizza. Now he is really into this Book It because he also loves pizza and he has no problem with reading. We go to the library and he picks out books he likes as well as having several of his own at home.

With that said, Do you have Book It in your School or something Similar. Just curious

Branson loves to go to the library and get books, he gets kind of tired of the ones he already has, but he will sit down and read to me, he will even read to me in the car while i am driving and I love it.

OUr schools use to particapate years ago, when my son was young. They don't now for some reason.

My highschooler does not do it either. Although he is reading a book for English right now, for some reason I think it is Of Mice and Men, not sure. But whatever he is reading he says is good.

I did that as a kid. My kids don't do it, but I think they have other incentive programs for reading.

My nieces do accelerated reading. This is reading outside of class. They choose from tons of books and take a class on them in the mornings. Based on the number of points, they receive prizes.

I think I made a comment on another post of your's about the Book It program. Haley participated last year when she was in 5K but I haven't heard anything about it this year so they must not be doing it. It was hard for us to do it actually - not the reading part, but buying the pizza. Of course Haley's was free but we still had to get something for the rest of us. Couldn't get pizza for Haley and not Parker. The first few months Haley was the only one in her class would got the coupon for the free pizza. Her teacher sent home a newsletter each week on Friday and congratulated Haley in one edition on getting the coupon. After that I think more parents tried to do it with their kids. It is a good program. Reading is important.
