I used to buy costumes, but we have alot and now I make the kids go thru the box and use what we have and let them buy one thing for it.
It is fun seeing what they come up with
I bought the kids costumes on clearance after Halloween last year, got them for $2.49 each!
Even though we live in a safe and friendly area of the world, I ALWAYS check their candy. You just never know what kind of freak might be lurking out there! When it comes to my kids, it's always safety first!
We will carve/decorate pumpkins, fish for apples, have Halloween coloring pages, etc. and I will have goodie bags made up for the kids. It'll be safe and fun. I don't know if we will go trick-or-treating this year. I usually end up throwing out half the candy anyways because they don't eat it. (Not that they need to.)
I was thrilled that Amara wanted to be something unique- a scarecrow! Most of her classmates (the girls) will be Disney princesses.
I won't be worrying about how they dress until they get older. Right now just about everything in their sizes are age-appropriate.
We've just always bought costumes and accessories on clearance and at thrift for dress up throughout the year, so instead of getting something new specifically for halloween they dress out of what they already have.
That sort of takes care of the "wanting to be something too adult" problem all on its own.
We also have a halloween party, we don't trick or treat. It's a very small town with trick or treating only happening downtown at the businesses, and since mine are still so little, it made more sense this way.
1: I made a Harry Potter costume which was to be for a HP event AND Halloween, but Gideon changed his mind and we BOUGHT one for this year. Sometimes I buy sometimes I make (making isn't often cheaper by much I do it mostly for fun and because I do sometimes have things here to use.)
2: Check VERY Thoroughly.
3: Nothing but the ripped wrapper ones are tossed out just to be safe.
4: No he's a boy and boys don't cause that kind of a commotion over costumes.
5: No. H1N1 is only being "treated" here as a common cold at all medical clinics.
6: I have no idea.
I will have to say I had not thought about the H1N1 and Halloween until now
I'm taking Elliott trick or treating twice this year. There's a special daytime trick or treating for preschool age kids at some businesses in the downtown area of the closest city to us. We're meeting up with Elliott's best friend and going to it. Then on Halloween we are going to go trick or treating in base housing.
We do always go through Elliott's candy, and don't allow him to have any homemade treats unless they are made by people we know. If we go to the squadron Halloween party this weekend, we will most likely allow him to have homemade treats from there, though, even though we don't directly know everyone there. It's different when it's a work party, I guess. :)
Conner is going to be a pirate. He borrowed the costume from one of his friends. Matthew wants to be a hobo...definately can do that one homemade!
Iam a Grandma to 9 kids all together.
My two are going as Tinkerbell and Spiderman. We purchased their costumes at the dollar general for a total of $20.00. I am horrible at sewing so it was worth it to me.
James is going to be Batman. I didn't have a sewing machine until just recently and with all going on no time to sew one. I made Nicholas' his first year and hoping to make James' next year.
I always check James' candy and if it is just open even slightly it goes in the trash. I never even let him eat any unless it is from grandma or grandpa till we get home to check it.
the grandkids come to our house to trick or treat. we'll have a cheerleader, a carebear, a transformer & possibly the grim reeper show up. and we'll say happy birthday to my father.
This is the second year we are taking her trick or treating. We go to a few houses near my grams house and near my mom's. This year we are going to a few houses in our development. We'll still be checking her candy and honestly she's not allowed much. My mom and gram make up a special bag for her and so do a select few others we see.I know it's safe. I'm not so concerned about H1N1. You can't let certain things rule your life. This is one I'm not letting rule us and prevent us from having fun.Your more likely to pick it up at a grocery store or doctor's office.So...we're still going.
We haven't however been able to take our daughter to the fall fest like we wanted to but that was due to the weather and over crowding in the areas.
I always check my kids candy, that's for sure.
I voted for favorite costume but, it was just a guess. I have no clue what's popular any year. I don't care about that kind of thing.
My kids are still young, and are boys. So, I don't worry about their costumes being too riske. Only the girls outfits are outrageous sometimes.
Now, I see a question about keeping your kids in because of the H1N1. You don't want to do anything stupid, but you can't live in a bubble. It's so sad.
make homemade costumes mostly, except this yr, saved $$ to get
my dd her costume.
We make the costumes due to the theme and because we like to be original. Don't want to wear stock costumes.
bought cheap costumes
Our niece is going as a rocker with uncle Larry's Guitar Hero guitar and Rock Star Mic.
Nephew is going as a werewolf carrying a sword. He wanted a light saber but changed his mind kind of.
I put my son's costume together for the Halloween party last weekend - a pair of overalls, a purple shirt, a purple hat, and I made the remaining pieces - an L for his hat, a white glove with an L on it, and 2 yellow buttons for his overalls. As close as I could get to Waluigi. I normally just buy a costume but you try to find a Waluigi costume!
