It is also interesting to look into the actual history of its writing and its use. Most people do not bother to find out more than they read in it. Then, of course, to be able to quote it does not prove one is persuing a spiritually aware life.

Finally, to eat only bananas because they are good for us is a limited diet. Think about it.

Never stated in this post I had only intended to read the bible. Although I don't think it is a good stance to not read it all. A lot of people belive, and it is often stated in my church, that quoting the bible is using the words of God as your armor. I agree if you don't know what you are quoting then no it holds no purpose. Furthermore I do know and have read a lot of the history behind religion and despite that feel there are a lot of truths to be had and still learned form it's teachings. Thanks for stopping by.

I prefer the New International Version. My Bible is bilingual, Spanish and English side by side.

I like the New International I just like to refer to the other sometimes just to make sure when I hear or read a quote I have the right one in mind.

King James is pretty but a lot of the words in it have changed meaning from then to now. The Revised Standard version is the King James but updated so the words mean today what they say.

Some might argue that the King James version is the most "accurate" version there is because it has changed little from it's original translation, however, as Peter pointed out the meanings of several words have changed throughout time. Thus if you are not accustomed to reading in "Old English" you are prone to mistranslating much of what is stated and interpreting the intended message incorrectly. Therefore a simpler and more modern version such as NIV is preferable.

Of course I'm not religious so you can always take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I have a small collection of "Holy Books" several versions of the Bible and the Qur'an, The Book of Mormon and many on religious phylosophy... I enjoy reference books!

I no longer live in a society composed of Catholics, Jews and Protestants. My neighbors are of such a variety and living together enhances tolerance and knowing about different religious beliefs from"Original" sources is enlightening and makes for good neighbors.
